trace the cables

I had a similar problem with my gas cap door. It was cable operated and I followed the cable to where the problem was.

When I changed my vc gaskets I replaced those ridiculus screw bolts with hex head bolts. Now I'm thinking, maybe toyota used those for a reason. Does anyone think the hex heads will cause problems?...

Try this

My friend had a Jeep with the same symptoms. He thought he had a cracked block. His mechanic said it was just gunky buildup. Have your coolant system flushed and see what happens.
