I guess it varies state to state, I'm always confused though, cause even in my own state it doesn't seem like anyone has a right answer. I'll just go with the 25 year rule.

Head gasket
Sure it could be the head gasket allowing some oil leakage. You should probably clean the engine, and that will make it easier to see exactly where the engine is leaking the oil from.

a lot of times with a cracked head your not always going to be able to just look at it and say hey there is the crack, thats why you should have it taken to a machine shop and have them test for you,...

how long has the gas been sitting, my car say for a year or so without running, and it ran like crap, finally i ran it out of gas, and put fresh in and low and behold problem solved.
