That statement is far too broad to apply to any/all transmitions. The only instances I have heard of using ATF in a manual is when it is recomended by the manufacturer ,and that's in newer trannys....

That's exactly what it is. Your engine operating temp is well above boiling and that is just a "nusance noise". Don't try opening the radiator cap when you hear that ,or big ouchies.
