I agree, keep it pre 89. Everyone's got the post 89 look now a days. Keeping the pre 89 front end and swap the post 89 rear end is the most I'd ever do. Nice choice getting an MKIII.

Actually I fixed the old gauge by putting the needle back onto the spring...somehow it flipped off...but since I had a working replacement I figured just use that. I still got the old one as a back...

It's possible the little button he's describing...

It's possible the little button he's describing has broken off. I had that problem recently and to fix it I got a plastic press fit rivet to go in the hole to make up for the gap the old button...
