Default oxygen sensor

my engine light came on when i was driving down the highway yesterday. I did a diagnostic check when i came back and got a code 21 (oxygen sensor signal).

It could be the oxygen sensor itself or the wiring, ( Checked all the connections..no loose wires or dry rotting here)I dont know yet.

any way of telling?
any way of cleaning the sensor? Because a new one if really expensive.

No cleaning, only replacing.

They aren't too much $$$.

If wiring seems good, then likely sensor.

Ohm meter testing, or best is 'on the car' with proper scanner.

I you dont want to spend that much look into Bosch O2 sensors, they are cheaper . You can buy them at Auto Zone or Checkers.

Don't go with Bosch. You can get NipponDenso o2 sensors at sparkplugs.com far cheaper than the dealer. This is OEM. Also, the "snout" is longer than the Bosch, which gets a better read of the exhaust as it passes through. Check it out.
