Hi i was looking through the topic but couldn't find the answer and I looked around in the forum... I understood the process on how to do this and im going to do it because I do have oil on top of my spark plugs. Now does this also solve the problem of oil inside the sark plug well. When I changed my spark plugs the last time I had oil on the side with the gap, and my car has been misfiring so its just sitting pretty for now.

I would recommend first doing a compression test. Also I believe you can get the same issue (wet spark plugs) solely from poor firing. It tends to increase with time as you dont fully fire the fuel. Therefore, (I am not a licensed mechanic btw) once you fix the oil on top, "if" you start firing better, new plugs may solve the entire issue. Those are my thoughts. |

OK, so my 89 had the same problem and I discovered it after reading this thread. I worked on it this weekend and got it fixed, seems to help out the leak but there's still a little bit of leak somewhere. There was ALOT of oil in the sparkplug well. try as i may i couldn't get it all out and I know that when I removed the old plugs and put in new ones some of it must have gotten down into the chamber below. Someone said it could misfire if oil gets down there but my engine starts now fine. It seems like it's not idling as smooth though. So my question is if there are some oil that accidentally gets down into the motor what would be the long term effects of having some oil drip down there. thanks

As a non-expert, Im going to guess that the worst case scenario is that the spark plug gets wet (on the tip where the spark is) depending on how much oil gets in there, which will cause a misfire. That should burn off relatively quickly though, but not being an expert.. I am just guessing at that. I used a turkey baster and rags to get the oil out of my galleys, but its virtually impossible to clean until you take the plugs out. I doubt you will have any long term issues.
