cre 12-28-2009 07:06 PM

Transmission supports:

http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...spx?F=3302&P=1

The fuel return line goes to flexible hose that just clamps on after the J shaped pipe which bolts to the side of the block. It runs down behind the driver's side wheel well above the frame.

cre 12-28-2009 07:07 PM

OMG!!!!

I can't believe I didn't notice it right away... you've got a BIG problem!

You appear to have forgotten to install the turbo. :bigthumb:

cvbikeguy 12-28-2009 07:10 PM

.................................................. ........:umno:

scare the sh*t out of me.

haha thanks for the help man. just need to get a few parts and we will see what happens

and yea. need that turbo :p

cvbikeguy 12-28-2009 07:18 PM

i cant find anyone that has 1-2 day shipping for the bvsv and the heater union nut above the egr..........

i start work on monday

cre 12-28-2009 09:03 PM

What kind of time frame are you getting quoted on the BVSV? I'm pretty sure I've got a spare around here somewhere.

cvbikeguy 12-28-2009 09:18 PM

haha

Wow, your woman's pretty quick at this... she let you do any of the wrench turning? ;)

You do however get a ding for the half painted engine bay... :nono:

Good job though! Now will it run? :D

she never lets me do anything...

the lady is going to finish up the engine bay

oh and hopefully it will be in running condition tomorrow. ho much do you torque your spark plugs cre?

cvbikeguy 12-30-2009 06:17 AM

so when i was taking the car apart this hose was plugged up and didnt go anywhere. tsrm doesnt show where it goes either. any ideas? thanks

oh hey cre, do you use that spark plug guide on the cylinder head? and is it even necessary?

I suppose you're asking about the one hard pipe end with the rubber cap clamped one? That one is blocked off on that side for GE engines... it's blocked off on the other side for GTE engines.

If you're asking about something else, post a picture.

Guide? I don't know what you're talking about... Could you post a pic or tell me more precisely what and where it is?

cvbikeguy 12-30-2009 06:53 AM

ooops i thought i posted the pic. here ya go.

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...406fc5763b.jpg

http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...fdb02a2c58.jpg

cre 12-30-2009 07:15 AM

Yeah, that's the cap I spoke of then. If it feels stiff or dry you want to replace it now... it's proximity to the N/A's exhaust manifold ages them poorly.

The other part is the #3 cylinder cover gasket.... aka the spark plug galley cover/gasket. It's supposed to be coated with rubber. It's used to prevent debris from gathering in the galley and it helps keep oil out if the valve cover gaskets leak. I don't recommend removing it, but really it's not going to help if it doesn't have the rubber anymore. I recommend replacing it. Some people advocate removing it if the rubber is gone saying that you can at least reach in and clean out the galley then, but you still can't reach in and clean around the spark plugs to prevent grit from falling in when you remove them.

cvbikeguy 12-30-2009 07:31 AM

sweet. so turns out my friend got me the wrong spark plugs. i need sleep

and ill order that cover as soon as i can. thanks for the hint

cre 12-30-2009 07:50 AM

Which plugs are you planning on running? NGK BCPR5EGP?

cvbikeguy 12-30-2009 07:53 AM

yup. the hex is too big on the ngk he got me. he works at kragen

cre 12-30-2009 08:10 AM

BCPR5EGP are the factory plug and they're very good. If you want a different plug, I'd stick with the NGK's; you need to make sure the model number starts with "BCPR5E".

cvbikeguy 12-30-2009 05:16 PM

cre if you ever come to cali im buying you a beer

so im about to try to finish up the wiring today...... :outahere:

Cre i picked up one of your links http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...x?S=Main&P=023

you should really start teaching classes or something. ill pay :))))

so i think i have the wiring figured out. theres just a few stray red wires that dont seem to lead anywhere. and there are a couple connectors that just look like ground wires. oh yea and since im so gentle with my car i managed to break the connector on top of the water housing from the radiator. electrical tape holds it together just fine for now. ill order the connector for that. ill post of pics in a sec.

one more thing, i noticed people asking for help on the forums are often really rude and unappreciative of the $$$$$$$$$ worth of help they are getting. thats sad. so cre, billuk, ihatehacks, oregonjoe and any other people that have helped or that ive taked info from......

thanks.

maybe the car will be running tonight.

cre 12-30-2009 07:13 PM

Nah, I don't know enough to teach classes.... I'll take the money though! :D

cvbikeguy 12-31-2009 03:48 AM

lol if only i had it man.

anyone know where these wires go

first pic, the circular ones. looks like ground wires
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...0c604adbc0.jpg

second pic
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...4ff76b962f.jpg

thanks

cre 12-31-2009 05:56 AM

The circular ones are grounds... they mount to the upper flange of the lower intake plenum where it meets the upper plenum... there's a stud with nothing else connected to it IIRC.

The second looks like the harness plug for the ACIS VSV.... vacuum switching valve which is mounted below the lower intake plenum in the middle.

cre 12-31-2009 06:02 AM

Your injectors aren't oriented correctly. There is a guide for each on the fuel rail which places the plugs above the rail, not below... below looks a *tiny* bit cleaner, but trouble shooting injector issues is made a bit more difficult.

Can you post what color those wires are on the connector in the second pic?

cvbikeguy 12-31-2009 08:43 PM

grrrr. lol thanks cre ill go back and fix it. soooo i figured out all the wires except a few

first pic colors:
yellow with red stripes
blue and yellow with red stripes
black and red with black stripes
black with red stripes
http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...50df62a4db.jpg

second pic is 2 wires coming out through the firewall
http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...b3bccb7714.jpg

http://c4.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...fbd4409a97.jpg

so i didnt touch these wires at all during my rebuild so im guessing it was running without these. and its pretty obvious it should be going inside the box in that empty space....

to bad they dont fit. theres also a third red wire thats grounded off so i figure it connects to one of these.

thanks for the help... almost done

cre 12-31-2009 09:30 PM

The two red wires are not stock... can't help there, look if they run to the trunk (possibly a stereo addon).

The plug in the first pic is probably The connector for the ABS speed sensor... I'm not 100% sure. The mating plug will be another harness connector running up along the tranny on the DS.

not stock? *snip*

mmk. so far i have 3 wires already connected that are coming from the tranny area. looks like im crawling underneath again. lol thanks

cvbikeguy 01-01-2010 10:53 PM

im an idiot

so i have everything connected and back together except for that one plug and a mysterious vacuum hose. sooo i figured it was safe to start putting fluids in.

can you see where this is going?

i started with the oil..... fine
started putting in the coolant.... drip drip.... pooooooooorrrrrrrrr

i forgot to connect one of the hoses that comes off of that U shaped pipe around the engine. :crazy2: im an idiot

luckily im really skinny and can get my hands in there.

sooo the next problem is this
http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/i...e1e66420e5.jpg

i have a slight feeling im screwd

cre 01-01-2010 11:04 PM

The hose comes from the hardpipe assembly under the lower intake plenum around cylinder #5 and #6.... a bitch for me to reach, but I imagine if you've got skinny arms you may be able to pull it off... could try from below too.

#16267
http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Librar...spx?F=1603&P=1

im an idiot.

lol once again, thanks cre

is this the same hose? cause i have #16267 going to that small intake sensor

cvbikeguy 01-01-2010 11:22 PM

oh wait they are different hoses. so then where does the AIC come from/go to?

cre 01-01-2010 11:29 PM

Here's how it runs:
#16267 runs up to the back side of the TB (to the nipple you have pointed out)
Then, from the front nipple of the TB the hose runs to the Idle Speed Control Valve (ISC or ISCV for short)
Then the coolant exits the ISCV via a lower hose which runs to a nipple built into the flange of the lower intake plenum around cylinder #2 (it is on the bottom side of the flange)

And YUP, coolant to the throttle body... it's to prevent ice from forming inside the TB and ISCV (yes, it's really possible; even on a warm day).

cvbikeguy 01-01-2010 11:32 PM

lol sorry for posting a million times in a row. this car stuff is frustrating. i hope the r154 swap is ALOT easier.

thanks cre. i want this this running tonight hopefully

crap i cant find the nipple on the flange.....

cre 01-02-2010 03:16 AM

It's on the flange of the lower plenum or runner which bolts to the block... I actually left the hose attached when I pulled that runner. Heh, is the hose already attached?

cvbikeguy 01-02-2010 08:30 AM

car speaks to me in my sleep

i couldnt sleep at all. i felt so defeated that i couldnt find that stupid nipple. tossed and turned.

i had to look again

i stare at the car for a sec, not even reaching in.

took a breath....

reached in

within a second i found myself touching the nipple.

WTF

anyways so thats that. just need one more hose to go to the backside of the throttle body. gonna turn the key tomorrow and cross our fingers.

oh one question. how much pressure goes through the coolant areas? heres a pic. and yes cre i will have a finish paint job..... just remembered the lady forgot to paint the hood............. :rolleyes2

feel like i still dont know anything about cars...... cause i dont.

so im pretty excited. now i probably wont be able to sleep since i know that im so close to getting this car started. learned a lot of things on the way also.

1. so not worth all this effort on a N/A :frown:
2. label more, take better pics
3. never do this to an N/A
4. dont break sh*t
5. just get a turbo engine and rebuild that
6. get a punching bag
7. your lucky after going through this that you arent in danger of substance abuse.

so yea. waste of money, yes. waste of effort, yes. me being a newb and actually learning something, maybe. this car may not be fast of a turbo but i really cant wait to drive it. sure as hell faster than my 4 runner and even though its wingless, the body style of these supras are f'ing amazing.

I'm pretty sure the stock radiator cap is SUPPOSED to open at 13psi. I recomend testing them periodically, even new ones can be way off.

Well, at least it'll keep you cautious and you know a lot more now than you did at the beginning! :bigthumb:

1. sure it's worth it... peace of mind? Worth a fortune to me. Besides, it was a great lesson. (you DID remember to chase the bolt holes in the block with a tap... right?)
2. plastic baggies, masking tape and a marker. ;)
3. why the hell not?'
4. agreed!
5. yeah, but if you need a car in the interim shouldn't it be running?
6. mmmmkay, whatever you need.... I needed a case of Kleenex.
7. Nah, there's enough chemicals floating around while doing this job that it'd make the drugs seem week and not worth the time.

No and no. It may be a bit faster, it's not uncommon to find that we've fixed a number of other problems on the way.... won't be more powerful than stock, but you might be surprised to find it was running like ass before; Happens often.

What's wrong with wingless? The OEM wing is just a "make pretty" part, no major effect on the vehicle's aerodynamics.
