i think that Toyota was thinking....well if the car can beat a carrea why not make it look like one?
|
Don't get too upset with the V8 in this so called new supra. THis Piece of Jap Scrap has been talked about since 2002 and has never happened. You wont see Toyota release a car like that in the next 30 years. All the ads your reading were made by phoneys dreaming of a new toyota supra that Toyota has no plans to make, i've seen this same cover story dated from 2002 and on every year up to now. Next year it will say the New 2008 Toyota Supra coming in of course october! Keep Dreaming Toyota doesnt care about sports cars, if they did they wouldn't have drop the car in the first place.
Hey here's a question for all you Toyota sports car junkies Name toyota's current sports car?..... ..... ........... Oh yeah they don't make one! and they dont plan on it either! |
what happened?
What happened to real sports cars that didn't care if the ride was uncomfortable or power windows didn't exist? Everything with power is all luxuried out now...someone needs to recapture what the 90's sports cars were all about and make a real car!

Saturn sky
the back of the white car reminds me of the saturn sky on the first page

cool
it looks like a honda s2000 from the back, i think the 95 looks better. and i like str8 six.

Damn you !!!
Damn you toyota if you do make a new supra like this and with these specs. No way man, if it ain't broken don't fix it.. that style form 1993, ( MkIV) Is so Sweet, even now 14 years later... alot of cars can't even come close to looking as Good. face it Supra made a beautiful car nicely curved and shaped, they broke the mold. something i have not seen from many Car manufactures, look at the nissan 350z, same lights, same body shape as the Maxima, it's just sad.
Let the legend live gracefully now, Don't come out with a lame version. if they want to make a sports car, call it something else for the love of god please:bow: AS for toyota having sporty cars, err i think celica is sporty , not nesscearily a V8 killer, but it's sporty. um and since lexus is toyota, i would say the IS300 has the same specs of a nice Sports car mixed with luxury. right Here, cageceo , Alex from Florida.... is a real Supra MKIV Die hard fan. that car was, is, and will forever be my dream car. it's the car that inspired me to become a Car desginer, and attend school in hopes to work for toyota. Maybe then with a True fan, can we have a new legend to again stand up for decades to the competitors. MKIV for life, laters, and Take it easy my forum friends.:offwall: |
Both the Celica and IS300 have been discontinued as well as the MR2 (again!) Really the only thing from the toyota family is the Lexus SC430 coupe, which is not all that fast, very expensive, and not that good looking. For the Money (65000, is what the SC430 costs) you could get a 97-98 MK4 with less than 50K on it, in the best of shape, GTE with your choice of trans (6spd or 4auto).

Lexus is Toyota's Luxury Branch. The only problem, if you even consider it a problem was that the supra was from " Toyota". Toyota was, and is known as a Extremly Reliable, Durable, Well built Economy Cars. unfortuneatly $40-$50,000.00 is not economy and the people Who Had enough Cash to Drop on a new Supra " Rich Folk" like to buy cars that represent Luxury and wealth, something which the Brand Name "Toyota" doesn't really Scream unlike Lexsus, Volvo, benz, BMW,and So on. My fear is they converted it to lexus Logo, and made a new platform. going with the new times they are going to redesign the ugliest crap of life and slap "Supra TRD" on it...... if they Do ill Cry, and not a full Blown out Cry just that single Tear down my cheek. i wish we could Vote on it... i would not want to see a new supra, i just want what we currently got. kinda like chevy always had their freaking Corevette. and the Corevette for the most part still looks the same maybe a few New curves but Generally the platform and same design. then again by now a lot of people can be having supras in a way im glad they stopped producing , it makes them more Rare and not as played out. |

Dont know how much research you guys have done but heres what i found
http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1964_21707110 Toyota is finally honing on the replacement for the Supra with the FT-HS 400HP Hybrid V6 based upon this version from the Detroit Auto Show. The rumors of a possible drivetrain shift with Toyotas recent acquisition of Subaru lends itself to a all-wheel-drive 400hp hybrid platform. Click here for the site Info i got this from not anymore info then this http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.c..._1964_21600291 |

its almost november 2007.... where the hell is it?
|
i agree with previous responces, it looks like toyota has went for luxurie, and just the fact that they completly changed the body style i mean look at the mustang u brng back that boxed front end and rear end and those straight lines from the early modles and they sell out they are everywhere, if toyota could just stick with that body style in som aspects then it sell out! and the fact that they are throin a v8 in there, come on toyota that wat a supra is is a I-6 and multiple turbos, keeps us light with to much fuuckin tork and hp to be touched, i took out like 6 out of 8 5.0's i raced, a supercharged denali, and countless other cars with just my I-6 n/a and mods out the ass, i dont need a V-8, i love my 6 till i die! lol
|
idk i still kinda think its a myth it might only be a concept that might never hit the streets...

i really don't know why everyone is complaining about a friggan v8 in a supra. people are all tryin to squeeze v8s into their FDs and Miatas and you guys wanna tear the shit out for a smaller, older, heavier motor that is more prone to fucking up? thats ass backwards. v8s are stone cold simple and makes fucktons of torque. Besides, with a NA v8 stock, there will be so much more potential then some 3.xLitre straight 6.
I have been testing corvettes recently, and i don't like the cheap american interiors but i really like that LS1/2/6/7s can pull out of anything in any gear. and the 2/7 motors sound rediculous, like F1 status with exhaust. Aftermarket Twin Turbo v8 supras anyone? |
dont know why your bashing on the 2JZ, who many 3.0L engines in the world you you know of that can produce 1400+++ hp? that would even be a strain on your Vette V8s.
|
Hes right if it stresses the vettes V8 how is toyota going to pull this v8 out of their ass and make it handle 1400+ HP easy. Im 100% a supra guy but the new skyline will walk allover a new supra. They need to stick to the inline 6 platform!!
|
I'm with the belief that they will probably release a Lexus supercar with the V10 or V8, probably costing $100K+ and nobody will be able to afford it, and our MKIVs will triple in value, and I can sell mine and get a new GT-R.
The End. |

So recap, A. no all of us do a Engine Swap that way, if i had a supra trust me it wouldn't even cross my mind to put a v anything "I-6 for life". B. the new concept doesn't remotely look like a supra, that's freaking sad how could they drop such a good looking platform. C. Some people prefer the sleeper effect ( Quiet, cleaner, yet fast) i like both but if i had a supra i'm pretty sure you wouldn't hear it coming. that's just my style. my 5.0 on the other hand... lets just say i wake up people when i stay up late. After market twintubo V8 anyone ?? no thanks... give me an MK4 any day and ill be happy with it. to me the car means something more then just simple HP, that car has a great story and to top it off looks nice. |

I LOVE JDM & USDM cars
Quote:
I would like for it to be known that I am a huge fan of import cars, especially the Supra. I fell in love with the 86-92 mkIII models when a soon to be friend of mine (Ernesto) went zipping past me on the local "Saturday-night-drag" back in 1993. I was in my cammed with heads, 3.55 geared 89 Fox Bodied LX hatch. The sound of his blow-off valve cutting the air, and being louder than my Flowmaster exhaust with long tube BBK headers, cat-less X-Pipe, 2,500 RPM drone in 3rd gear completely enchanted me. Which shortly there after I found out the car was also amazingly fast. I was then and forever hooked on the car and gained much respect for the platform. With that said, I read the post in which the quoted excerpt came from and felt like the poster was saying that the American car market pales in comparison when it comes to history or nostalgia as it would be; and I may be wrong. So here is my two cents for what its worth. There is a huge heritage behind every muscle car that rolled out of Detroit. The pony car wars had a huge effect on the car market and they molded for a long time how the US car market existed. There is a long and great story that goes along with a lot of great cars from the 50's 60's and 70's both forgotten and remembered to this day. -J p.s. either way thanks for the memories. :) |

Truth is the longevity is out the window on any motor when your numbers get high in the HP and TQ bands unless you do a proper setup and even then...well you know. I don't want to seem more USDM sided here and I FULLY KNOW Supras make big hp numbers, but it would seem that you are discounting the LS/Chevy (or even the Ford) block too much. Nelson Racing Engines builds 350 and 434ci stroker motors that produce 1,000hp on 91 octane and 1,500+ on race gas. They have big block Cheby (yes i said Cheby) motors that make 3,000hp as well. All of which fit in a late model vette, firebird, or camaro or any other oldie. Again, not being USDM skewed, I just can't stand it when someone says that American muscle can't handle big power. -J |
ICourse I doubt very seriously if the R158 tranny will fit this engine.
|
Front looks like an Aston Martin
idk if i like |
Noooo.....
I know that every enthusiast of....well everything, frowns when a company wants to reintroduce a new version of a classic.
But I'm going to have to join the chorus of naysayers here. The Supra is, in my opinion, one of the finest automobiles ever made. Toyota should learn from Rocky Balboa. Leave the classics alone man. |
looks like Tib
|
I don't mind the look of the new supra, its objective is to knock the 370z off its stand, and i think it will.
|
im glad that they might bring it here like they did the skyline but what i dont like is that it dont look like the old ones like the 95 thriugh the 98

I dont like it....
|
Agreed way too much like the 350z, barely resembles anything of the MKIV. Don't get me wrong still looks nice, not exactly what I was hoping for but hell I'd still take it!
|
/sigh
I am feeling a bit sad when I look at this car first of V8 supra = NO shit the inline 6 was already good why ruin it. they should have build the old type skyline engine and modded it up a bit then it would be a supra. The body style looks like a shitty lexus I really dont know what they were thinking this wont come close to the GTR
|
I thought they scratched this for the new concept
Toyota FT-HS? |
