When it comes to rods that's not entirely true.. Toyota makes a pretty solid engine from the start, and depending on cash flow and how far you want to take the engine, it could be more cost effective...

I've got the same issue.. as soon as I replaced the head gasket and started it up, it clicks, quieter when cold louder when warm. I've been doing all the checks and have guys who know checking it...

I agree.. look everywhere for leaks. It's still possible that head gasket is an issue if it hasn't been done yet. Could be minor.. probably after sitting awhile the coolant sitting in the cylinders...

Ya said you took the manifold off? Perhaps I misunderstood.. nonetheless, could you notice any cracks in the manifold? Sounds like exhaust maybe leaking, and something like that shouldn't interfere...
