Default My 1st post! - Siezed 4M-E, Crunched Oil Pan... Related?

Hi all, I'm very glad to have found a nice active forum on Supras!

Anyway, I have an '81 Supra auto and the 4M-E is siezed SOLID. No clunking back and forth, like if it were stuck camshaft or stuck pistons. It must be the crank that is stuck. I have put a lot of force on the crank snout bolt with a long breaker bar, and succeeded in loosening the bolt, but NO movement whatsoever.

And the oil pan is badly crunched in, like someone jumped onto a rock or something.
So my thoughts are that maybe the oil pan is contacting the crank lobes, preventing any movement. Could that be possible?

I'm almost ready to start tearing out the steering stuff to get the oil pan off, but I need some ramps first. Or maybe I'll just set it up on tires.

I only paid $400 for this car, and I absolutely love it. I can't wait for the day I get to start her, and drive her!

Let me start by saying thats a nice MK I.

Now down to the problem. It is very possible that the oil pan is hitting the crank. But the dent would have to be very deep for it to do that. Did you check the oil level in the car? I guess you're going to have to take off the oil pan to see if that was the problem. Either way, if it seized you're going to need a new engine. So might as well take it out instead of taking off the steering components.

Thanks for the compliments on the beautifull MKI.

So I would need to replace the engine, even if it's just the oil pan siezing the crank? I figured that if that was the case, I could just replace the oil pan, and call it good (till she blows up!)

And thanks for the warm welcome! I'm sure I'm here to stay!!!

Well, keep in mind, I haven't seen the dent so that might be the cause, lol. Either way, I wouldnt start messing with steering components. I, personally, would never mess with that. I would rather pull the engine than to start taking apart the steering stuff. It would be easier anyway.

i would sayy.. more than likely.. someone slipped off the crossmember with the jack and that is what munched the oil pan

by munching the oil pan the oil pump pickup & mesh has broken and cracked and left many shards of metal in the oil, then that nice metal filled oil has gone through the motor and shagged out the bearings and got dam hot therefore seizing the engine

well that's my theory anyway, be interested if you tear it down to see what you find

and yes awesome mk1 you have there
