my girlfriend and i are the proud owners of a 1987 sports roof supra australian delivered 3 previous owners with 187000 kys on the clock B)
i will be looking in the near future to fit up a 5 speed out of a turbo as the gearbox is stronger this by the sound of it should be straight forward as i have spent the last 4 hours going through your forum looking at other posts
for information on our car and advice on some of the comon problems
i need help with a few things please in regards to the tems suspention the lights on the dash do not light up i have pulled apart the dash and removed the lights hooked them up to battery power and they work but when fitted back into the dash no go any ideas please
2 the fuel consumption on this car is bad we only get about 380 to 400 kys out of the tank is this normal and with the car sitting on cruze control at 110 kph the revs are sitting on 3000 rpm is this good bad or normal
3 is there anyone out there that can help me with a factory workshop manual for this supra as i cant get one from toyota and aftermarket is a no go also
4 i do have the same bubbling problem with the cooling system and will take the advice of burping the system shortly but i still have this problem with it the car is fitted with a recovery system and unfortunatly when cold it does not suck the water back into the radiator this could be to do with the air in the system and i hope this fixes it i have made sure all hoses are sealed replaced the radiator cap and put some radiator stopleak in and this has fixed 90 % of the problem i just hope that the burping fixes the rest of it
5 this one is tricky when on cruze control and driving at speed sometimes the cars idle will start to faulter and then all of a sudden the cruze will just disengage this happens on long trips only and is a pain in the ass

thankyou for your forum it has been very helpful i will keep in touch and look forward to all who reply to this keep up the good work happy motoring

tems... are you sure the actuators in all four corners are plugged in? have you checked that the actuators are still even there

fuel consumption sounds normal for a 3l to me... i guess you could check the 02 sensor... new air filter... new plugs.. usual maintenance

http://www.supratsrm.com 1990
http://www.supra.co.nz/tsrm.htm 1987

yep try burping and make sure you don't have any little water leaks anywhere

cruise control... ain't had that one before lol... try the tsrm and see if thats a common symptom

cruise control is controlled by vacuum, so check the vaccum lines going to the accuator. Also, the TSRM has a VERY in depth dignostic of the cruise control system.

These cars get decent gas milage, but if you're boosting everywhere like I do it kinda sucks on gas <_<

Yea, check to see if your TEMS accuators are even there, I've seen a lot of them missing off of TEMS cars because the shocks are so expensive...

To supra girl and poodles thankyou for your advice your help will, i am sure cure 90% of my problems
To supra girl thankyou for the links these will help me with my technical mind as i read chew up and spit out vehicle workshop manuals like men like there porn.
Now on to the supra she is n/a no turbo and i might add all tems actuators are in place and plugged in and working fine [ in normal mode it floats like a barge on the water but in sports mode you feel every bump in the road am i the only one that still has this system fitted????? I hope not as i think that this works really well but as i said before the three green lights on the dash are meant to light up when the car is running and increase from one to all three depending on how much you are putting the suspention through i will have to look at the wiring diagram you sent me to see if i can suss it out but does anyone have any ideas before i tackle this as it could just be something simple
I will need to get a hold of someone i know with a digital camera so i can post some shots of the car while looking at your post on identification of the models we have found 89 model tail lights 89 model indicators/parkers 87 washer jets electric areial in the drivers side rear quater panel 86/7 rear spoiler and 87 rear wiper that comes to rest at the bottom of the rear screen not like the 89 that sits upright at rest does this sound right for a 87 model were these changes made by the dealer as it was sold new from nunawading toyota or were these performed by the other 2 owners before us
Once again thankyou all for your help it is greatly appreciated
keep up the good work happy motoring B)

that's a very strange tems problem lol... i haven't heard of that one before... the most i could probly suggest is that there is a break in the wiring or even perhaps the tems computer is not plugged in

tems computer lives in left rear quarter, you will need to remove the interior panels to access it.. once you have the side panel off you should see 2 nuts which are holding the computer in place... feel in around behind there and see if you can find the wiring

also.. sounds like a normal tems to me... but the interesting thing is.. now i read it again.. the tems computer must be plugged in or else you wouldn't be feeling a difference... so maybe the wiring for the lights is broken or something?

i still have tems in mine but not for long... i love my tems but new tems shocks cost too much for me at the mo so i'm putting standard ones in mine soon

sounds like you have an 87 that someone has upgraded the taillights on.... most american models look the same as the NZ 87... so...
north american supras all have electric antennas as well i believe

what i've posted in the body faq that describes the 87... that applies to 86-88 north american supras
was that confusing? lol
