Lightbulb Question about swapping from a 7MGE to a 1JZGTE

If anyone knows what has to be done to complete a 1JZGTE swap into a 1989 non-turbo Supra PLEASE share your knowledge! I have an aftermarket turbo kit on the 7MGE at the moment and I'm looking to sell it and swap in a 1JZ. The questions I have are:
1)Whether or not the motor mounts from the 7M will match up to the 1JZ?
2)Will the interior wiring harness from the 7MGE match up to the motor harness for the 1JZ?
and finally...
3)Will I need to change the cross member if the motor mounts don't match up?

If it's an 89 you should have no problems. An easy way to tell is if it has round motor mounts its from 89+.

The harness on the 1JZ should hook right up to the interior harness. The only problem is that you'll have to lengthen the harness by about 18".

The only reason you'd need to switch a your crossmember is if they are, for some reason, square. But they shouldn't be. And if they are you can just get these. Look for the "1JZ Motor mount adapter brackets." Also if you just buy the engine by itself, you'll also need an R154 transmission. With that change, you'll need an R154 driveshaft, R154 mounts, 1JZ bellhousing, and a 1JZ flywheel. Also to complete the swap you'll need this and this if you are using the hydrofans. There's a few more things but that's most of it.

Thanks so much for the help, but I just have one more question. If the W-58 transmission will hook up to the 7MGTE and the 7MGE, then does that mean the driveshaft that hooks up to W-58 will also hook up to the R-154? Thanks again for the help...I'm new to the whole world of Toyota motor swaps!

I'm going to keep the original 7MGE that I converted to turbo, but I had to do the turbo upgrade a few pieces at a time. First, I bought a Greddy TD06SH-20G turbo kit from performancecenter.com and had to do a few extras to the car to mke it work. I had to tap a hole in the side of the block for the oil return, tap a hole in the oil pan for the oil feed line, get a new custon exhaust ran from the mainfold back, and a few other minor things like changing the injectors to 440cc's and getting a new ignition coil and box. Second, I had to purchase a FMIC and get custom piping made, but that was before the intercooler and piping were offered as a total package on Ebay. Third, I had to get a fuel management system (I went with megasquirt) and had to get it dyno tuned to work with the new injectors and all the other minor upgrades. All in all it would have been better to just go ahead and go with a 7MGTE or a 1JZGTE swap in the 1st place b/c before I syarted all of that I rebuilt the 7MGE block and head with 7MGTE rods and pistons in the block and put 7MGTE valves and springs in the head. Hope you can use this info and if you decide to go with a 7MGTE swap just let me know and I can try to get you a 7MGTE computer and a wiring harness (not sure how much that will run just yet).

No the input shaft on the R154 is a different diameter. And I'm not sure but they may be a different length.

It really is easier and may be cheaper to just swap in the 7M-GTE engine. As long as you get an engine from a 90-92 supra you'll be just fine. If the engine is from an older supra then you'll have to modify the dash harness connectors.

As long as you have the 1JZ bellhousing it'll bolt up just fine. There's a link in my first post in this thread.

The R154 and the W58 are the same length I checked because they looked different to me when they are on the ground. The W58 will mount up to the back of the 1JZ but you have to change the flywheel and the bellhousing. Cheaper to just keep the R154 and buy a solid driveshaft.

thats the old method, people nowadays drill a hole near the throttle cable and run the harness through there and its fits right behind the glove box in the stock location but just flip the ecu, cleaner looking engine bay too
