Default IJZ or 2JZ swap

I have a 1989 NA supra non turbo. I killed a rod bearing and most likely pistons in the car. I have the chance to rebuild my 7MGE for like $1800. This doesn't include the price I'd be paying for a metal head gasket since it will probably go anyways.

I could always get a 7MGTE for $1200 plus installation fees ...?

I was thinking of go full out power though, the 2JZTTE comes with everything including auto tranny, pretty sure it needs motor mounts too, all this for like $2200.

The 1JZTTE comes with everything but needs a wire harness and that is $1400.

Which one do you think would be a better idea?

I also need to get my other engine and all parts out.

As far as pricing goes how much will each engine cost installed, and any needed parts or suggestions would help so so much.

7MGTE = $$ ??
1JZTTE = $$??
2JZTTE = $$??

Thanks so much for the help.

I'd say the 7M-GTE swap would be the most cost effective but probably the least reliable *ONLY* if you don't take care of it. Make it a habit to check your oil every time you fill up on gas and when you do the headgasket make sure it's done right. The 1JZ-GTE would be the second expensive and second most reliable. And the 2JZ-GTE would be the most expensive and most reliable. These swaps cost upwards of $7k. Engines usually cost around $700-$1000 to install. And thats for a direct swap, no wiring harness work or parts. The 7M-GTE has more mods on the market than the 1JZ but the 2JZ has the most mods available.

but if you have too much money to spend on your supra, go 2jz. bcause i personally dont like 1jzs bcause i think 3.0 is always better than a 2.5.

PS: 1jzs are responsive.

the 7m-gte to me would be it but then again go with what you want..ive seen a video were a 7mgte kept up with a 900hp 2jz 7mgte still lost but i think it was only pushing 750hp or so also you know the head gasket is going to be change but parts are a lil cheaper for the 7m-gte well maybe for me unless you have your own connection

Default Still not sure

The 2JZ is always sticking in my head... I can get all the stuff needed with it for $2000 but it's installation that scares me. $2500 + is what they're saying

$4500 + total, all this for 330 HP if I'm lucky

Or the 1JZ swap is my next bet, I can get everything i need for $1000 but it will need an ignitor chip. Not sure about installation, will the firewall need to be pushed into so the 2 turbos will fit? I'm not sure what this one will total but as far as cost I'm thinking.

Ignitor chip $130
Mounts? $40
Intercooler $120
Intake aftermarket $30 (ebay)
Installation $1000+?
Engine $1000

$3320 total and i may have like 300 HP on that one?

as far as a 7MGTE anyone know what there difference in pricing would be to install this vs a 1JZ. I'd much rather a 2.5 TT just b.c it's a sweeter looking engine than a 7MGTE.

Any help or past expiriences would sure be helpful =]

Thanks all

Just because it looks sweet huh? How about this 7M?

Look sweet? Lol

It looks pretty much the same as the 1JZ except with 1 turbo.

If you got a USDM 7M-GTE it would be plug and play as long as the year matches the chassis of the car. With the 1JZ, the harness has to be extended to reach the dash harness. You'll also need a 1JZ bellhousing and an R154 transmission if you're only getting the engine itself, a 2jz power steering hose, etc... The 7M-GTE would be cheaper and has a little more aftermarket support.

By the way, what is an ignitor chip? I hope you're not talking about the chips on eBay that say you can get more power out of the car by installing it. But if you are talking about the ignitor, yes, you will need one of those so the car will run. And remember, when installing an engine and it doesnt start, check for air, fuel, and spark.

EDIT - I paid around $2300 for my 7M-GTE with the transmission, harness, ECU, HAC sensor, ignitor, stock intercooler pipes, 2.5" intercooler hardpipe kit, TiAL blow off valve, new accordian hose, new slave cylinder, new slave cylinder hard line, a boost gauge, an R154 driveshaft, R154 crossmember, and a stock intercooler. I installed it myself though, so I'm sure I saved myself a few thousand.

Wow well I take that back, that engine is amazing. The chip yes is the ignitor chips. Those ebay chips and all other ones are pure bull, it's all in one's head the power they achieve.

The 1JZ comes with the following

Complete Engine
ECU Wirring Harness Turbo Intake Manifold Exhaust Manifold Power Steering Pump Alternator Distributor Air Condationing Injection Fuel Rail Pulleys
Other than that I could find a 7MGTE for the same price but I risk the HG getting screwed. Though I could always change it ahead of time. There's just something I'm worried about in 7MGTE that I don't fear in the 1JZ. I'm pretty sure a 2JZ is out of my price range ATM.

The acceleration of a 1JZ seems like it would be better too just because of torque and hp, not to mention it's lighter too. I dunno I'm freakin lost right now.

I've heard if you go 1JZ swap you might as well go 2JZ any comments on this?

How can you say the 2j is more reliable then the 1j and then the 7m. No matter which one you buy, its used and there is no way to tell what you're getting. If you want to talk about reliability I saw a 7m dyno 787rwhp then drive 320miles home, the same day a 2j threw a rod through the block on the dyno...

Default about 1j 2j comment

What you've heard I'd probly right
If you're going to convert an mk3 to a 1j
You might as well convert it into a 2j
Since both swaps will be concerning the same things
Ie mounts harness, etc etc
The 2j would probly cost more off the start of the build but you will bw more thankful in the long run

And yes
I do think that a 7mgte to a 1jz swap
On an mk3
Is pretty much a waste of money and time
Cuz think about it, a few more here and there and you would have had the holy grail of inline6 motors
That's the reason why there is still a huge demand for the 2jz engine even after almost 10 years when it stopped appearing on a usdm car
