i would "assume" a ting or tick from the head. a knock, i would "assume" spun or destroyed bearing, ill guess rod bearing, on my 5m when i roasted a main bearing it made no knocking, in-fact i drove it around for a while and had no idea...
but its just an assumption... and codes should be check "EAR"-regardless
