Engine Help/Suggestions!

So I was driving my 89 supra cruising around 50mph and started to notice a knocking or banging coming from my engine, so i pull over and the car is idle and its making a knocking sound coming from the engine. Didnt want to drive it all the way back home so i got it towed the 7 miles back. Im pretty sure its rod knocking, so any suggestions or tips? Really trying to get it fixed in the most money efficient way. Could probably post a video if thats better, Thanks for reading!

how many km are on your engine?? it may just be ready for a rebuild.
i would tear down the block and check the crank for wear.

are you reading any codes? if so i would check the FAQ'S to see what they are and that might help zero in on what your problem might be

Yeah the chassis has roughly 153xxx, and the swapped 55xxx, but whos knows what condition this swap was in when put in, but yeah i just stopped driving it to prevent any further damage. So yeah ill get some codes pulled and also see from there.
You guys have any estimate on how much a standard rebuild would be at a shop for a 7m-gte?

could be as something as a lifter needing adjusting. But you still gotta take the top off to do it. So if your going in that deep might as well start restoring. most shops are 60 bucks an hour or more. + parts.. Taking the head off is what 6 hours minimum. start / finish.. so idk 400 / 600? just a high estimate.

i would "assume" a ting or tick from the head. a knock, i would "assume" spun or destroyed bearing, ill guess rod bearing, on my 5m when i roasted a main bearing it made no knocking, in-fact i drove it around for a while and had no idea...
but its just an assumption...
and codes should be check "EAR"-regardless
