I've never had to burp the system on a MKIII... I just fill the reservoir ALL the way, run the car until the engine is up to temp; Refill the reservoir ALL the way; let the engine cool; Fill the reservoir ALL the way again and just make sure the reservoir is completely full after every drive for a few heat cycles. Removing the brass jiggle valve will help air work it's way to the car and out through the reservoir.
If you feel you must burp the system the goal is to elevate the front end as much as possible while the engine is cool. Start the car and add water as the air in the system bubbles out. Make sure the A/C is off. When bubbles stop coming out turn it off (while still adding water/coolant) and put on the radiator cap. Fill the reservoir ALL the way.
