Default somebody want to give me torque values for head?

3 liter MGE. I think the story is they changed alloys in the head, but didn't change torque, and that discepancy is part of the BHG issue. can anyone confirm or deny the story, and more importantly, what should the headbolts be torqued to?

Getting my 24 hours of lemons car up and running, ready for next month

my research has led me to believe that they designed the motor to work with an asbestos head gasket, but they changed gaskets w/o changing tq values. not positive on it, but thats what a few of the threads and general conjecture led toward.

anyway, if its stock and you just want to up the tq, just torque to 72lb ft of tq, no back off. just tighten them in sequence to the higher value.

stock is 58lbs. when i first started getting into these motors i was surprised, my SBC was 65lbs with 5 bolts per cyl and less compression and better HG. 58lbs always seemed low to me from the start...

ps, have fun at lemons! ive always wanted to do it, almost took my old v6 camaro last time!

thanks, come on down to Sonoma Oct 22-24th if you want to crew for us. we typically put crew guys in the car for trackdays, on friday, so they get some experience, then we run it during the race!

Too bad. we usually do pretty well. we have run the same supra in 9 lemons events. 6 of those we were top 10 - including a class win and a 2nd and a 4th. same car, same stock engine - the damned thing seems to be indestructable. we just change the oil between races, and head back out for the next one. so figure 15 hours X 9 - thats how much racing on an engine with 175K miles before we started. changed out the head gasket and put in ARP rod bolts - thats it. we figure the thing has raced about 5000 miles on the track!

thats awesome, another testiment to toyota reliability! that sounds like alot of fun tho. i always thought an old celica would be fun too, but lack a lil power to freight train ppl on straight aways.

anyway, good luck man, pm me with race results, like to know how you did!
