Having just replaced my struts with the Tokico Illumina II's on a TEMS equipped Supra, it'd be really easy to remove the actuators if you wanted to. They're just plugged in with plastic clips and come off very quickly. I decided to keep mine for the sake of leaving my car somewhat original, and I'm glad I did. It's definitely not the most sophisticated adjustable system I've seen, but there is a noticeable difference.
