A clogged cat/downpipe? What does it feel like? I just bought a 91 Supra, and it boosts at about 3(according to the stock gauge) and it doesn't pull at all if anything. I can downshift on the freeway and itll sLOWWWlllly creep thru the RPMs while the gauge is pegged at 3. Is this a telltale sign of a clogged cat and/or downpipe? P.S. the past owner had the wastegate checked, boost leaks checked, intercooler checked, bov replaced) Thanks in advance!

3?? it should be seeing at least 6. check all the clamps, you may have a boost leak somewhere.

does it studder kinda bad when in the boost, you can check the throttle body to 3000 pipe boot, there are verious hoses to check. but i had the same problem in my 88 turbo and you know what it was number 1 and 2 cylinders where seeping, pull your plugs out and take a nice brite light and look down into the head if you see anti and oil theres your problem. if not i would have to say a hose then , cause if your cat was plugged it would not go over 45 mph

I know i keep saying this to diffrent people, but this sounds like a cracked turbo. As the crack around your wastgate port gets bigger you will lose more and more boost, but if the previous owner checked the wastegate could just be cloged cat listen for a clicking coming from your number one cat, and some times you can actually smell it, it smells like rotten eggs or sulfur, or might be your actuator. good luck

Ok, I checked the wastegate. It is stiff like it should be. No leaks...I DO hear a ticking now and then from the cat. Kind of intermittent. No smell though. If I was to floor it on the freeway, as it downshifts and the RPM shoots to 4k, it rises very very slowly from there and the boost sits at about 3-4. The car basically goes no where! Also, if I had weak cylinders, how would the car pass smog so easily? (It passed yesterday) Ne other suggestins? Keep them coming !!

I dont want to say the cat is the prob, but if you here a ticking coming from the cat you should take it off and look. sence you just passed inspection you might just want to hollow it out and just wait to get another tell next inspection. hopefully thats all it is

i'd take off the intake hose that feeds the turbo and see how the turbine spins . it should spin freely
how did you check the wastegate ? you took off the elbow and eyed-balled the gate ?

I already checked for the turbo. It spins freely. As for the wastegate, the spring was very tight as it should be.
