The 7M-GTE would be an easier swap than the 1JZ. While you can most definitely turbo the 5M I don't recommend it... There's a lot more to it than just strapping a turbo on. If you have no experience with swaps or significant engine mods you should probably spend some time with it in its stock form and learn the basics first. I'll let the MKII folks cover the rest as far as the 5M and supporting mods go.

it is called the: 5MGE and yes you can put a turbo on it. if you don't know much about turbo chargers or engines in general i suggest driving it the way it is and enjoying it or selling it and buying a honda accord.

7M-GTE (turbo), not the 7M-GE (non-turbo).

The cheapest thing you could do in order to increase power, would be swapping in a 7mge or 7mgte supra engine. The power increase would be moderate nothing mind blowing, but if done correctly can be vary reliable. Even a 7mgte swap can cost thousands. And at 16 I doubt your income is consistent. A j series conversion is not for novice mechanics.
I myself have been working on an engine swap for 2 years, unless you make 30 dollers an hour it's difficult to put money aside for this type of project.
I am sure it's not the slam it in response you were looking for, I wouldn't want you to get over your head.
