suprra_girl 02-06-2005 12:12 PM

jumper with a piece of wire t & e1 in diag box in the engine bay, jump in car, turn key to ign and count the codes from engine check light

example code

21

flash flash... flash

34
flash flash flash... flash flash flash flash

2 codes stored

14 & 52

flash...flash flash flash flash............. flash flash flash flash flash... flash flash

now go here and find out what your code means :)

B) ....hmm...flash flash... :P

das 04-19-2005 05:07 PM

just thought i'd run a check out of interest and now have a quick question.

I have 4 positions on my ignition key, they are in order. Lock,Acc,On,Start

When i try the check in lock or acc i get no flashing lights, when it goes to start the light blinks constantly, what am i doing wrong ? lol

Hopefully i should only be in ACC position and there are no faults lol

suprra_girl 04-20-2005 11:19 AM

your ignition should be set to the "on" position

if it blinks constantly or not at all

congratulations no faults present :)

das 04-21-2005 11:24 AM

great, thats a relief, thanks suprra :D

corewitz 10-15-2005 07:02 PM

will just like a paper clip work? I tryed that and the engine light is just on always and never blinks. Also there is a lot of white gunk in the diag. box, would that have anything to do with it?

suprra_girl 10-17-2005 12:20 PM

yep... ppl have used paper clips

that white gunk is used to keep the terminals in good health i believe :)

lifesnotfair 01-13-2006 03:17 AM

Great!

Thanks, supra girl. I have no idea what "t" and "e1" mean, but I will try to search for this tomorrow.

My hood shocks are "tired", so I hate to look under my hood coz I need one arm to keep it up, or a stick, which I never keep around =P

suprra_girl 01-13-2006 09:55 AM

hehe good luck with ya codes

look in engine bay
locate fusebox
beside fusebox = another box with diagnostic written on it
inside diag box on lid you will see pin diagram
find T & E1 (also known as TE1 & E1) on the lid then match up with diag pins and put wire or paper clip into those to connect them together and walah... your cel will flash or do something ;)

CzA 01-18-2006 05:21 AM

Good stuff

lifesnotfair 01-28-2006 05:00 PM

Yeh...

My car died on me last night. I called my sister's husband and he pulled me with a cable (illegal here, but didn't wanna pay tow truck). I did the diagnostic today, I have codes 42 and 43. I know 42 is because I removed speedocable.

So 43 is what made my car suddenly shut off last night.. or at least I think so... gonna check some stuff with the multimeter, but I'm no good at this stuff. =(

Isphius 03-16-2006 06:35 PM

my car is also blinking 42 and 43.....but only when i start it, and turn it back off and then put the key to on again. It runs fine thou. im guessing 42 is cause my speedo is broken, but what exactly does 43 mean?

suprra_girl 03-16-2006 08:34 PM

code 43 is starter signal, no starter signal

http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/librar...fi/FI_028.html

enjoy ;)

Isphius 03-17-2006 04:00 PM

I did read that, but what exactly does it mean? my starter works fine. is it perhaps because i removed the alarm and grounded the start wire? do i even need to fix that?

Isphius 03-17-2006 04:02 PM

my car also died sometimes...i had a loose ground wire. couldnt figure it out for sh1t. just a little bit of info. haha.

SupraSaver87 07-03-2006 07:09 AM

*blink**Pause**Blink**Long pause* -repeat-

I got what I think to be error code 11, however there isn't a code 11 in that manual. Wonder if someone could help me out with this one. Although my CDS (Possible standing for Computer Diagnostic System) fuse is blown.

I don't get a check engine light when driving, or when sitting with ignition set to "on".

suprra_girl 07-03-2006 09:03 AM

momentary interruption of power supply to ecu

check all grounds, battery to chassis and grounds on the manifold as they may be broken or crappy connection

khills 07-18-2006 05:43 AM

i was driving on the highway for about 5 or 6 mins (city driving 10 mins before highway) and the check engine light came on. after leaving the car parked for 2 hours, i started it up and it was off...untill iw as on the highway for, again, 5 mins. I got home, turned the engine off, took the keys out and restarted the engine, and it didnt come on..

tryed to figure out that E1 and T thing...i dont know what im doing though, i THINK i know what cable to play with..but i dont know which is T and which is E1....even if i do, will the code show up if the light doesnt come on until the highway?

(1986)

suprra_girl 07-18-2006 09:59 AM

sounds like code 52 which is knock sensor, check to make sure your plugs aren't broken and that (if turbo) both are plugged in (if na) that "the" knock sensor is plugged in

get a piece of wire and you should have to open the lid on the diagnostic box, inside the lid is a diagram of what each pin is, there you should find where te1 and e1 is

if ever you do a diagnostic and you have put the wire in but your check engine light stays lit and doesn't blink thats because the wire has not made firm connection in both of the terminals :)

khills 07-19-2006 02:15 AM

call me stupid, but i cant find a thing that talks about the knock sensor, even online all i get is 1992 and newer...i dont know where the thing is..

(it couldnt have been my gas cap not fully tightened could it? i saw today that it hadnt been tighened all the way till it snapped. I know the newer cars have that problem connected to teh 'check engine' but im not sure if the older models do)

suprra_girl 07-19-2006 02:17 AM

do a diagnostic lol
and no gas caps aren't connected to the check engine light ;)

let me know if you are having trouble doing a diagnostic and i will run thru it in pm step by step for you :)

Isphius 07-19-2006 03:18 PM

I was just wondering, Is there anything else usefull to do with these ports? There is a bunch of em, Or did they just do that to prevent us from doing our own diagnostic when the car was new? haha. I also got code 11, And i had my ground battery terminal come off, But i fixed that. Could it just be stored from that?

suprra_girl 07-20-2006 12:57 AM

yep from the ground cable

FP and B+ runs the fuel pump at 12v when ign is on
some cars have ect in theirs so you do ect & e1 = trans diagnostic
can't think of the rest for now lol

Rob420 10-03-2006 08:52 PM

Thanks Suppra girl

I am gonna try the diannostics now! I also have done a tune up and helped but did not fix the problem.

khills 10-17-2006 12:46 AM

ok, i finally figured it out, took me like..10 mins haha so lame its been 3 months.
ok so its a 42...WHICH makes sense, cause my speedometer doesnt work, when i bought the car, the previous owner thought it was a speedo cable..but i guess not.

does anyone know if the sensor is in the transmission or is it behind the dash? what is a good way to test the sensor to make sure?

chrisluvsmarkrad 12-09-2006 08:34 PM

Did you get the trans. sensor issue straightened out yet? If not, I can help you.

:)

redmaro 12-12-2006 06:35 PM

I want to do a diagnostic but I dont know which ports I have to bridge. A pic would be helpful. And also how do you know what code number you getting. For example code 24 will blink 24 times?

Isphius 12-12-2006 07:03 PM

the pins you jump (t1 and e1) are pretty clearly marked on the cover to the diagnostic thing. Ones in the middle and ones on the top right. Code 24 will blink 2 and then 4 times. Like ...o.o...o.o.o.o...

redmaro 12-12-2006 07:11 PM

I know its e1 and t1 but, where is it on the diagnostic thing. My diagnostic thing dosent have a cover.

That white gunk is waterproofing/dielectric grease that helps keep water out of electrical connections, and it also helps to promote electrical conductivity.

89whitedevil 01-01-2007 10:24 PM

wow supra girl!!!

hey im impressed you really do you homework i think your the first person i have seen in a while that has this much info on this old of a car (i am a mechanic as my profession) and i work on brand new cars there much less complex than the older import cars it is hard to find info on alot of this stuff like codes wiring schematics ect. but just for info sake i have acsess to all of that so if anyone need this info let me know i also have diagnoistic procedures too i can post them really easily....

dannydavi 03-31-2007 12:10 AM

hey first off i really wanted to say this is an awesome technique, thanks for sharing. Second i got an error code 14: which is with ignition signal, diagnosis is no IGF signal to ECU... then it says "A" 7M-GE 6-8 which i dont understand, trouble area: ignition and ignition coil circuit, igniter and ignition coil, ECU. I also got trouble code 21: which is either oxygen sensor signal or oxygen sensor heater signal, So basically what im asking is can someone help me understand my trouble codes, and perhaps lead me in the right direction to eliminate my trouble codes, thank you.

Computerised Diagnostics

I wanted a fast car, one with heaps of ponies, I could'nt buy a 300zx, my brother in law has one. So I went one better, I got myself a 1989 3ltr turbo supra (completely stock, still has original air filter). Made him envious, as you can well imagine.

To get to the point, I'm wanting to bridge my laptop to the engine management (diagnostics). Is this possible? If so where is the interface port (PLUG)?

supraboy380 05-28-2007 10:03 PM

i tested my car and got codes 12 13 and 14, does anyone know how to fix them? i already looked them up, and i think its my throttle sensor but i don't know howto fix it. i think thats whats causing my car to cut-out at like 2500 rpm, but idk

okinawasupra 04-11-2009 02:55 AM

great info thanks!

Diagnostics

Will this work the same for a MKIV Supra as well? or is there anything different that needs to be done? Thanks!

red_armie_soviet 09-09-2009 09:13 PM

I got 3 diff codes and they all seem to be electric, i got codes 24, 32, and 41, and im having a really hard time fixing them.

I would like to know what years this works for as well, I know it works for all MKIII, I don't know about the MKII or MKIV.

Anyone?

suprra_girl 01-07-2010 12:44 AM

Typically will be the same for all toyotas 86-95ish

Some MK2's apparently have some sort of diagnosis system but I'm not sure which ones exactly, it's apparently a 2pin plug with a cap on it that you short.

MKIII trouble code 26

This is a great forum/thread! I read through the previous 4 pages and didnt see anything on code 26 on 1990 turbo supra, and this code is not in the manual. Just bought the car a month ago and have been restoring it to stock. Everything has been going well until it started intermittently started cutting of all power under heavy acceleration. It always havens from about 3000you rpm and up. Anyone ever had a problem with this code?
