The reason is the straight 6 block has to have more material on it by design. On a v8, the oil pan and intake manifold ,which are aluminum and sheet metal, make up a lot of the surface area that the straight 6 has to cover. Plus its longer and taller and about the same width, Both motors being completley disassembled.

Thats why that "taller, longer mucho heavy" 7M-GE is so smooth.
On another note. If you haven't already shaved and finished your rear wiper you'll need to weld up the old hole. If you try to just fiberglass it you will find with time that it will shrink and leave you with a nasty cracked decklid. 35 years in the body business...I know what I'm talking about. I made a few mistakes over those years lol.
