Bolt Identification

I am in the midst of a dreadful BHG fix on a 1990 Turbo. I took a lot of photos, but they were nowhere near enough. Also put all the removed bolts and nuts in labeled sandwich bags.

So after I...

Bought a set of ARP bolts, not studs. Discovered that 10 of the 14 won't go into the head w/o grinding clearance into the bolt area. ...

Head Bolt Retorquing

When replacing a BHG with a stock or Fel-Pro gasket, has anyone retorqued the bolts/nuts after a few heating/cooling cycles? Did they move at all? I want to determine if these non-metal gaskets...

Use a strong plastic knife-you might try wrapping it in cloth. Then put a small coil spring on the latch mechanism to assist with popping it up against the safety catch for the future.

Easiest Way to Hook-up Turbo Oil Lines?

Finally starting to get my 1990 Turbo back together after a BHG.

For those who have been there, is it easier to hook up the turbo oil lines to the block first or the bottom of the turbo first?

If your engine is still in the crate and the balancer still on, you could try sharply striking the end of the breaker bar with a big hammer/wood block.

Turbo Valve Clearances

As part of my BHG repair, I checked all of the valve clearances. All of the intakes are right around .009" (.006-.010" spec).

The exhausts of 5 of the 6 cyls. are right at .013" (.008-.012"...

Supra radiators w/brass tanks?

Got quite a surprise when I took my 1990 radiator to a local rad. shop. I wanted to have a thicker 3-row core made for it. Rad. shop took one look and said "no way, this thing has plastic tanks".

It's my wife's car, and the only thing I might do is raise the boost a little with a few washers under the waste-gate actuator. Maybe run up to 9 or 10 lb. max. She doesn't drive it hard, and I'm...

Fel-Pro Head Gasket for Stock 1990 Turbo Engine

Found a "seeping" HG on the exhaust side of cyl. no. 6. It wasn't burned, just distorted and pushed out toward the water jacket a little. Guess I caught it early. Previous owner had tightened all...

My only reason for blocking it off is because it's so difficult reaching the bolts. But after removing so many bolts, hoses and electrical connections I suppose 2 more won't make much difference.

Interesting. If a ported vac. signal is used, then it seems that EGR has no effect at idle.

Hopefully the oxygen sensor/knock detector (I assume Supras have one) will work to protect things.

Thanks for the quick replies. I hope the turbo/exhaust side is easier to remove than the intake-I busted hump today. At 65 years I'm gittin' too old for this stuff---.

Blocking Off EGR Valve-Emissions?

Finally got around to determining why my 1990 Turbo Supra was using (not leaking) about a quart of coolant a day (~50 miles). A coolant test for exhaust gases in the radiator was negative. But I...

Removing Tailight Lens

Anyone ever remove a tailight lens? My 1990 Supra has some kind of green mold inside-just under the outer lens. I can't see how to remove the lens.
