I think the internals could handle it, for a while. The weak links would be the rod bearings and of course the head gasket. The more you boost and crank it up, the more chance that parts will fail....

My bet is it's the switch on the steering column. It's probably loose. I know mine still clicks and works but it's not a very good design that year.
