Hello all
just bought a 3.0t for spares [ie axle]for my v8 rover however its such an awsome piece of engineering it may be best to keep alive +restore.So i reckon who better to comunicate with than other supra owners.

well... if she's complete and in not too bad a condition even if the bottom end has gone i would rebuild her...
of course i'm biased :lol:

i've blown two head gaskets in my supra so far and don't intend there to be any more... she's starting to look gorgeous and the motor is going so well since the rebuild

it also depends on how difficult it is to reregister a vehicle where you are... here in New Zealand they don't tend to take a liking to 80's cars that are deregistered so they are pretty tuff on their standards..
we just got a complete 86 T 3.0 that other than a door and a spot of rust in the rear is in really good nick... but we won't bother getting it revinned as standards are too high

also most ppl when they do engines or so forth they go and get 2nd hand engines from junkyards etc... to be honest i would definitely recommend fully rebuilding your engine.. that way you know the history of the engine and know she's gonna be a beaut

reason i blew two head gaskets was mechanic fault not engine design...
most ppl say ohhh 7m.. it'll blow a head gasket but admittedly yes from the factory torque specs weren't high enough and therefore they do eventually blow them...
my 2 head gaskets...
1. mechanics didn't believe in torque, figured 25 ft lb oughta do it LOL so it was inevitable
2. my fault hehe... pistons came above the block and were 20thou over.. i placed a standard bore size head gasket on soooooo... pistons pounded head gasket for 20,000 km :lol:

so have now fully rebuilt the engine with all the right parts and new parts and she's running perfect... 278rwhp on 9psi

the body's can look awesome with a kit or keep em completely stock and just clean it right up... there are some awesome stocker mk3's out there that are just perfect examples of the luxury sports car they were meant to be

let me know what you decide and i'll attempt to talk you into doing up the mk3 even further hehe :P

washed motor for first time since I parked it up for a previous employer.
Green with grime ,now a bonny white .
very little rust -windscreen lower trim dead,ns/osr small rust on under arch-solid enough .
osr quarter has curious rust 4"circle .
tank looks bad rust though im sure I can source a plastic 2nd h tank
to last better.
Picked up a 2nd hand coil pack so could drive it home .
slight miss ,
diagnosed coil pack + taped up leads at fault 2 yrs+ ago.
Worked on toyotas 12ish yrs ago,so i guess I guess I do like their good points also.

is it fridge white or pearl white?
ahh yea that lower windscreen trim does have a tendency to rust out
emmm what is osr and ns lol? not my terms
i'm sure i'll understand the 4" rust circle once i know what osr is hehe
the tank rusting :blink: where is it rusting?
so the slight miss was the coils? those don't generally fall over... quite reliable really but hey if that's what it is thats what it is hehe

well i sorta specialise in supra's only.. mainly the 7mgte or 1jzgte... altho my knowledge on 7mgte's far outweigh the 1jzgte hehe... been playin with them for bout a year now but have rebuilt a fair few of em and worked on many... learnt alot in the past year or so but there's always somethin new thats gonna pop up and make me research hehe

it prob more resembles a white fridge ,than a white pearl suppose h34r: .
over here ns means ;nearest to the kerb ,which is passenger side.
NSF -nearside front
OSR-offside rear
age of car im not sure but autodata places it pre 93 on turbo .
Loads of fresh bits ie rad ,225 tyres ect.
fuel tank overall looks rust leak only on running]aint spent any time checking it,though one straps broke.main probs foresee is brakes +all lines so no great hasstle.
125K miles wont hurt surely . Head prob best off for a clean/inspect prior to any work.No rush though B)

ahhh good ol fridge white hehe
ahhh k got your abbreviations now lol

model changes... now you have a tricky one there hehe.. there are quite a few model differences..
ma70 chassis is 7mge/7mgte = 3lt non turbo or 3lt single turbo
ga70 chassis is 1ggeu/1ggte = 2lt non turbo or 2lt twin turbo


86 in the US is always non turbo... it has black/dark grey moulding with i think 4 like stripes which are a light grey, the windscreen jet washers are only about 5mm long and quite roundish compared to 87's which have longer ones and a little more squared
also on the dashboard you should have the rear demister, hazard switch, and parklight switch... if you don't have a parklight switch then you either have an 87 or an 88
now to tell an 87 from an 88 is also in the washer jets as they will be different... 88's will be the same as 86 short stubby ones
the moulding is totally different to any other model.. it's quite hard to explain but well.. on other models if you run your finger over the moulding you will feel the pattern... 87's have perfectly smooth moulding and the pattern is inside where the like clear cover moulds over it.. if that made sense at all hehe
87's are widebody.. guards flare out more than the others, aero roof (lift out roof) have a coin slot in replacement of the park light switch

the supra you saw was an 89+ supra... they had steering wheel changes in that year... if that supra is still at the junkyard see if you can get the loom that was plugged into the indicators.. that is what runs the cruise control etc... but unfortunately i don't have a wiring diagram for all of that

the 89+ had different indicator switches... smoother than the older ones
diff steering wheel
i believe burgundy interior was abolished?
the turbo variant from 89+ is 2hp more than the 86-88
they had two coin slots on the dash as cruise control on switches were moved to the steering wheel where earlier ones had the "on" switch on the dash then set cruise and cancel on the steering wheel
the bumpers and taillights were changed in 89.. quite a popular thing to do is upgrade to the later lights
and of course they added the great cup holder lol... although how you stop the center console smashing your straw to bits i'm not sure yet hehe

there's most of it i think... well the obvious anyway

hi
got running sides sorted out before doing anything else.
Three plug leads had dodgy resistance ,along with first coil but now smooth +crisp cold+ hot B) .Charged battery [was dead flat for two years]now holding charge +starts first turn.
Radio jumped into life with a hawkwind tape in it B)
Maybe a bit rough but cut a hole in fresh boot floor to gain access to pump pipes .fuel leak was high press outlet ,so temp repair got it fixed .Front to rear brake +fuel lines rotten so best give it a full check this week.

lol @ the hole in the boot... dam toyota was a pain for that lol

but you'll never beat my fuel leak.... upgraded the fuel pump.... all done sweet.. start car... fuel pisses out lol... mate forgot to plug up return line h34r:

have massive problems with fuel... so i decide to put factory pump back in... all done sweet... start car... fuel pisses out... forgot to plug up feed line this time :lol:
