I had to take off the heater hose and the egr valve to get to my top starter bolt. And I had the upper intake manifold off also.

Even with all of this off it was still a bitch to get at.

Have fun!

Oh and if you use a short shank (about 4") 14mm closed end wrench on the bolt head (part of the bolt facing the trans) it will help.

i going to take it in and have a performance shop do it for me. i'm going to have them check the small stuff first. and do you think the starter from my new jdm will work fine? if its the starter thats bad, because when it failed it was an on going thing, some times if i keep turning the key and click the shit out of it, it woud start. and then i had to jump start it. is it going to be safe to push start it to get me to the shop, its a 1/4 mile. thanks agian!

could be worn teeth on the starter or flywheel along with a number of other things.
