Default engine problem

OK, I dont know much about engines, but anyways. I have noticed a slight whining noise from the bottom of my engine and today it went crazy and graduated to KNOCKING...REALLY bad, the engine actually stalled a few times, but I know it's blown in some way, but I know the pistons are ok, so I'm wondering if anyone can tell me what part of the engine or rod or bearing I need to replace? it makes the noise in all gears and is very loud, I need to learn how to rebiuld engines anyways so if someone can point me in the right direction for what needs replaced that would be awesome.

sounds like it could be a crankshaft problem or your connecting robs. if u press on the gas does the sound become louder and more rapid? also try place a long sold object to the engine then place your ear to it see if u can pin ponit the location of the nosie.

Good luck

yah it is actually coming from the bottom of the engine. I thought it was a bearing in the tranny going bad at first because it was just making the sound in certain gears, I mean it was doing it in ALL gears, but not as loud in 4th, now it is a loud knocking sound coming from the bottom of the engine, The engine has to be running at High RPM's other wise it stalls, the pistons seem to be good, but there is still insufficiant oil flow, most likely due to the lack of circulation...hint! the crank shaft! but my tranny shifts nicely and it seems to run ok, but I'm hoping the engine isn't blown, because a rebuild would be a pain. Replacing a crank shaft will be a pain in it self, but I know that is the ONE thing I'm replacing. The sound does get louder as the RPM's increase. Ussually the knocking sound means the engine is blown, could it still be just a crank shaft because every once in a while as I was trying to get it home it would grind a little bit too...

The first thing to check is the crankshaft pulley they are known to come lose and make a clattering noise, but by your description it sounds like big end bearings. This is what happened to me last year, when starting the engine it would make a clattering noise and then disappear, if I increased the revs to about two thousand it would come back.Stripped the engine out to find one of the big end shells had spun.Sent the crankshaft away to be reground and tested unfortunately the crank was cracked which often happens when a shell has spun or the engine has seized. Spent the next few months looking for a recondition crankshaft at a reasonable price, plenty in the US but none in the UK, ended up buying a second engine and using the parts from both to get back on the road. Pic of bearing shell below.

well I dont know anything about engines except basic maintanance, but I'm going to tear down the engine and I'm going to replace the crankshaft and the bearings around it to be safe. If I see that there is too much damage then I will just get another engine...just start naming off some parts that I should replace to be safe...

well it sounds like u may just need to rebuild the bottem but it also mint be wise to do some work on the top seeing as how your already tearing into it. i would replace the piston rings while your doing everything else and maybe some valve work but its up to u. for the rings u'll need 6 oil and 12 compression. see if u can find some TRD racing cames at a good price, mite be worth your time.
