Default Brakes

I have a 1986.5 supra and I changed the rear break pads and now the rotor heated up almost red hot. I noticed the old inner pad was worn uneven,is my caliper the problem . pls help thks

It could be the parking brake dragging. It could be the caliper keeping pressure on the pads.

I wonder why the pad would wear uneven,never seen that before.

It might not have uneven wear.. it may just be warped from overheating. Thats what happened to my motorcycle pads.

I just changed my front calipers becuase of a similiar issue. The rotors were warped because the caliper was not "free floating" like its supposed to.

I havent gotten in to my rear brakes yet, but if they are like the front there are two bushings that allow the caliper to slide back and forth to remain centered over the rotor. On mine the top bushing was rusted almost completely solid and not only was I getting uneaven pad wear, but the brakes were dragging and heating up the rotors. Thanks to my parts car I swapped em out in less than an hour and everything is all good now.

check your calipers for this condition.
