the easiest way to tell would just take apart the thermostate. its not hard, wont take alot of time, and if you wanted to you could replace/ put in a thermostate. they are pretty cheap, i think like 5bucks. id put on some sealant to make sure it seals good though. also if you decide to do this,drain the radiator or put something under the car to collect the coolant. i know you probably arent a dumby but im just reminding you...
