Default Tachometer Issue

Hey all,
I am new to the Toyota forum and somewhat new as a Supra owner. I have an issue with my Tach (the in-dash stock tach). It is completely non functional. The person that sold me the car says that there is a component in the rear of the tach that needs replacement, but I can not give much thought to his suggestions as I have had to do some significant repairs to his shoddy work on electrical stuff.
My question is that I hear there are often issues when a SE is modded to a TT (as was the case with this car) and that the tach and AC are normally not fuctional (yes My AC/fan/heat doesn't do anything either). Is this normally the case? And what are the normal causes remedies?

Any help from the experts is appreciated!!!

Hi guys,
I am new here so greetings to all.....

My stock tachometer is also defect !!!!!!
And know the engine runs extremely rich at idle..

Did you find the fault on your tacho ????

Is/was yours also an SE (i.e. non-turbo)?

My Supra is a 2jzgte turbo model ....
I found the no signal rpm issue it was a faulty ignition
coil pack !!!!!

Interesting the faulty coil pack would cause the tach to malfunction. Honestly, I've never heard of that before. Many thanks for posting - I'm glad to have learned something new!

Well Guys,
My R.P.M issue came back again was working fine
when i replaced the faulty coil pack but it.s back!!!!
Do you think a broken or damage crank trigger wheel
can cause this ???

Well the strange thing is there is no check engine light
and also no codes stored !!!!!!!
We did a scan test and also jumper the E1 and TE1 no signal
there the scan says no connection.
I hope it is the crank trigger wheel that is damage hel of a job
to get to it.

Has your Supra been modified at all? If so, please list the modifications.

My Supra has no mods on it the only thing is that it was
converted in Japan with a 2JZGTE engine.
The body is a year 2000 non turbo and then they swap
a turbo engine and harness in it .
I did a check on the crank trigger wheel and it looks fine
no damage there ......
Do you think there is a internal damage like broken valve
guides or valve seats ???
