Most (I'm not saying all, it's been a long time since I've working in that field) older valet keys have an extra cut in the position closest to the tip (some valet keys are a bit shorter than the master). The reason being that it's easier for someone to add a cut to a key then to fill in missing material. Impression cutting is too easy. Typically, when you see a locksmith impressino cutting a duplicate it's because they intentionally undercut the new key to adjust for wear of the old key (this makes for a more solid feeling in the new key).
Regardless, a good locksmith should be able to set you up. |
