I have a lot of old sheet metal working tools...I might just make all the pieces entirely out of metal. That way they wont peel off....But then i would just screw it down and bondo the holes...so if i need to take it off, Im screwed. No pun intended

I have had good luck with SEM 39063 trim black gloss black. In 2021 it's about $19 for a 12 ounce can delivered from eBay. If you have cracks In the remaining plastic, spray some in a cup and use a small brush to fill them before spraying light coats. This paint may cause the remaining plastic coating to curl a bit. That's why I'm saying go lightly at first to form a cured base coat and press down any curls. I was able to find a full 4 piece rear hatch glass trim replacement sourced in Japan through eBay but they wanted $396 delivered. I went with a $19 can of touch up.
