Default Super Monitor

Yes, you are correct, it only came on the 87 and 88 model years in the USA. I'm not sure about the other countries. I believe I recall seeing somewhere that it was about an $800 option and I have it on my 65,000 orginal mile '87 Turbo. My mileage has been averaging about 17-18.5 mph, but that's mostly with city (Seattle) driving. I have not taken it on a long trip yet where I consumed the entire tank fully on the freeway, but on some of my longer trips...say 1/2 to 3/4 of the tank used on the freeway and the remaining city driving I averaged a high of 19+ mph. Oh, and btw, this is a completly stock MKIII.

and for the guy who didn't know about this option, the monitor also has elapsed time and an oil change menu. I couldn't imagine attempting to use the elapsed timer while doing any high performance driving as the buttons are not in the best location.

Im up to 18.7mpg by the way.

congrats on the mileage increase. I'd love to find a way to get my mileage "average" up beyond 20+ mph without loosing the performance.

i don't think anywhere else in the world got supermonitors, only the states i think

we didn't get them here altho it'd be cool to have one
i believe that even if your 87/88 didn't have the supermonitor stock i think there is the wiring harness still behind the dash so you can install it if you wish

and the only ppl posting are ppl with the information that you requested, so make up your mind, you want any ppl to post opinions/information or just ppl with experience with the supermonitor (your post has been edited accordingly)

does anyone know if the 86.5 has the harness for it? are you lumping 86.5 in with 87/88, or is there really that much of a difference from 86.5 to 87?

ALL 86.5-88 Supra's have the "possibility" of having the wiring for it...but not all do. My 86.5 did not have it but my 88 does.

If you pull off the panel that goes under the steering column, and look up under there, you will either see a 2inch long connector thats not plugged into anything, or you dont have the wiring for it. It takes less than 5 minutes to find out.

Default Timer

So the timer on there is not a turbo timer? I just purchased a 87 Supra Turbo a week ago and just discovered the supemonitor 2 days ago. SMH I had an 88 non turbo and it didn't have that. I am stoked about this accessory and can't wait to put it to use.

No, the timer is just a trip timer.... (see: in-dash egg timer).
