After I re-lifted the plenum, and seeing how difficult it would be to attempt to reinstall that little 8 mm water hose to the "vertical fitting", I used a long piece of 5/16" fuel tubing and ran it down the side of the block. I used a double-ended barbed metal connector to join the two rubber hoses several inches under the plenum, where it's fairly easy to reach AFTER the plenum is back on.
I now realize that stripping the head bare while in the car was a real dumb thing to do. While I would NEVER do this BHG repair again this way, I'll have to think about how difficult it would be to pull the head with the turbo and intake manifold still on.
