Hello all

Im a Supra and a forum Newbie and firstly id like to show my admiration to all here for having great taste in cars. The MKIII Supra is indeed a spectacular car due to its excelent design and craftsmanship, not to mention the power which can be achived from these beasts. Its good to see that some ppl have a keen design sence, and care about what the car looks like unlike those ppl with Ford and Holden Sedans.

But enough with the philosophical crap.

Im currently looking at an Australian delivered 1987 supra which has done 163,000kms.
It is a 7MGE (NA) which is good for me because im only 17 (same age as the car i want ) and the cost of insuring a 7MGTE is too high.
I would prefer a manual but unfortunately it is an auto, but the asking price at the dealer is $6,800 AUD (i would get it for around $6000)
The body and paint are in immaculate condition, and the Interior is reasonable for the age of the car.

I test drove the car, and couldnt hear any problems, but didnt get a chance to open her up properly because my parents were in the car with me.

What i want to know is, is this a good price for the amount of Kms it has done and also is their a great deal of power difference between the manual and auto versions of the car? Would it be worth getting a manual conversion in the future?

If i were to get the car what cheap mods (<$300 per mod) could i do to make her a little lighter on her feet?

---Thanx

^ i have no idea what you just said LOL

i think i posted this somewhere else here as well.. the only advantage i see with manuals is that ppl can do doughies easier... basic boy racer activities... yea in an auto you can't launch at 5000rpm like you could in a manual.... but power wise auto's are faster on the 1/4 and an auto is never gonna go into 5th instead of 3rd is it
the manual version will have between 2 & 5% less drivetrain loss (2-5% hp increase compared to the auto)

1987 is a good year... most i have seen is sport roof, widebody and well just the damn sexiest of all years i reckon hehe
7mge... if you like the car buy it... you can always do a turbo + manual swap later or just do the manual swap and turbocharge the na.. it's been done a few times... you can enjoy the benefits of cheap insurance and a reliable car and when the times right do the turbo and manual thing

the only thing i highly suggest you do is find out if the head gasket has ever been done and get a compression check done on it... be there when they do the compression check if you can... make sure the numbers average at 150ish fairly equal... no more difference that 10psi in each cylinder to the next

mods... intake, exhaust, headers is a good start
