the alarm will not disarm automatically. It needs to be manually disarmed through a working key switch. Since both doors are suspect, try the hatch. However, the hatch will only momentarily disarm the alarm on my '88 Mk III, and will reactivate once the hatch is closed again. I was fortunate enough to be able to fix my driver's side switch by taking it apart and bending the wiper arm slightly to restore a good connection. I did that last Fall, and have not had a problem out of it since.
If you choose to try this, the best way is to remove the door latch with the key cylinder attached. The wire harness can be disconnected inside the door frame, as well as the connecting rods to the key cylinder and the door handle. |
