Default 7mgte for dummies

ive had a 88 automatic supra for sometime. its got oil in the turbo hoses so im guessing the head gasket is bad the the bearings in the turbo are pretty wore out. im fixing to tear it apart to rebuild at least the top end. im wondering what all cheap things i can do to while ive got this thing tore apart get the most out of this thing.

im used to old chevy small blocks so this stuff is new to me.

If there's oil in the piping then u have bad turbo oil seals not a blown headgasket.

depending on mileage he could be sitting on a stock head gasket.

either way, i would check out this site for a rebuilt turbo...

cannot remember if you have to send your turbo in for this or not, he is a trusted vendor at www.celicasupra.com

i thought these turbos were water cooled not oil cooled?

the odometer stoped working before i got it at 157000. and ive had it for 2 years now.

would a stock rebuilt turbo be better than a larger one for that price?

your best option would be to just rebuild your turbo.
and a simple compression test will tell you if you need a HG or not:

this question has popped up alot latly for me so make sure to read the part that says :
minimum pressure:128PSI with 14 PSI differance between cylinders...

i believe its water cooled, and oil lubricated...

The CT-26 does see some cooling from the oil. You can run one without the coolant lines for a long time without issue... How long depends on several factors including how resistant the oil is to coking and the viscosity of the oil used (directly related to the volume of oil moved through in any period of time). The CT-26 isn't designed to cool solely with oil though so it's not what I'd call ideal, there are differences. The water cooling addition really does significantly extend the turbo's life just as oil cooling (on top of the regular water cooling) increases the life of your engine.

Depending on how long it's been since last cleaned and depending on the volume found the turbo could possibly be fine. The oil seal in the turbo sacrifices small amounts of oil to hold back the greater volume; It's always leaking very minute quantities of oil into the intake... so small that on a completely fresh turbo it's *almost* impossible to measure in a short period of time.
