Pretty much i'll be getting a running car for $1,000 he offered to do the work with his dad over our break, they own a shop. I figure this would be a good deal the engine has 80k miles on it... shoudl last me a year and a half until the end of college, and get me into a supra which i have always wanted to.

2 things. 1) see FAQs section on fuel economy. I have a few mods on my 89 n/a, and with a/c on I get 15 city....20 hwy. A/C off I get 17-22.
2) I work at a shop here in Calif. Head gasket/valve job would cost you, the customer, $1800. Better make sure to do ALL the small stuff too. Like...hoses, flush system, vacuum lines, clean EVERYTHING while its off, belts, idler bearing?,water pump, etc...... |

Yep. I did mine on a couple of Sat.'s I got wholesale prices on all my parts, still $400. The valve job (with lash adjustment) was $425 at machine shop.
Runs great now. |
