Talking the cure for some no starts

My battery was dead, so I jumped him and drove into Tulsa. A quick check and he started. Went inside shopped came back and tried to start, nothing. Lots of power but nothing. The man tried his battery nothing. So I remembered the security system, went outside the car and cycled the drivers side lock. Got back it the car and he started right up.
So perhaps a lot of no turn, no start issues are being caused by this?

Yes, this is a common problem for many unfortunate owners... Fortunately you were well informed enough to try unlocking with a different door and didn't get the car towed to a dealership.

I've had problems with mine. The driver's side door occasionally will not disarm the alarm. I have to go around to the passenger side to turn off the alarm blaring away. This happens on the hottest of days when the sun shines on the door handle.

Another time, it went off on it's own while I was in the garage. No rhyme or reason, just started blaring. That only happened once.

They weren't so bad when the parts were all new... but aging contacts screwed to the back of lock cylinders and magnetic reed switches for sensors which loosen from their mounts over time tend to make the system a source of contention for many people. The worn out switch on the driver's side lock cylinder is the cause of 95% of alarm related problems.. replace the switch and the owner's happy for another 15 years.

Talking

The Alarm did not go off, the car just refused to turn over. I was pondering having it towed when it hit me "Earth to Ranma, come in Ranma this is Earth. Might be the security system, try locking and unlocking the door." He fired right up! Think Cre is right, the drivers side door handle is fracked. Have been having trouble finding a new one.
