I think the Apex'i is a great filter, but there are a couple out there that are just as good but don't come with the "boutique" price. Would I run another Apex'i? Yes. Would I pay for one? Not if I can still get the AEM. There are a couple other newer filters like the AEM) which do an excellent job as well but I can't think on the brands.
EDIT: As you mentioned, yes Apex'i makes a great filter, but all the tests and reviews are as old as the design and technology behind it; I've yet to find a recent review which pits theirs against some of the newer contenders in a trustworthy fashion.
