Apexi Power Intake for N/A MKIII
 

Hello everyone!

I seek to put an Apexi power intake in my N/A Supra, but I understand that the filter adapter manufactured for the Supra only fits turbo models. However, I searched the web, and I found one post, on one forum, saying that the Apexi flange made for the Toyota MR2 fits the N/A MKIII. Can someone confirm this, or is it untrue?

You can buy the HKS adapter and use whatever filter you choose. But remember sucking in hot air from the engine bay is bad for power. Although the factory intake seems restrictive it is still a cold air intake. Also you won't see any amazing gains on the na from the intake.

Yes, The Apex'i Power Intake for the TURBO MK2 MR2 (years '91 - '95 with the 3S-GTE specifically) will fit just fine. It includes two metal bars for rehanging the MR2's VAFM but you don't need them.

Personally, I'd recommend just buying a generic VAFM filter adapter off eBay for $5 and get an AEM DryFlow filter for half the price of the replacement Apex'i filter. I like the Apex'i but they're overpriced and the AEM's are just as good but a LOT more easy to replace and much less expensive.

And 907's right about not seeing any real gains from this.... more likely you'll lose some power unless you build a box around the filter to make sure it's not getting air from the engine bay.

Thanks for the input, guys! I guess there's a universal agreement that it's not worth it. I was planning to build a custom cold-air intake, as to not suck in cold air. I've read virtually every where that Apexi's are the best, but I'll reconsider it. :bigthumb:

I think the Apex'i is a great filter, but there are a couple out there that are just as good but don't come with the "boutique" price. Would I run another Apex'i? Yes. Would I pay for one? Not if I can still get the AEM. There are a couple other newer filters like the AEM) which do an excellent job as well but I can't think on the brands.

EDIT: As you mentioned, yes Apex'i makes a great filter, but all the tests and reviews are as old as the design and technology behind it; I've yet to find a recent review which pits theirs against some of the newer contenders in a trustworthy fashion.
