Then I adjusted the cam position sensor I bealive its the one by the exhaust cam bolted on to the side of the head. Then tried to start again then BAAAAAM sounded like a gun shot I just have a 3" down pipe on so mabe that why its loud. any ideas I realy do not want to start it until I get more info.

Default a few ideas

check your coils, make sure the right connector is plugged it, mines a green connector, only one on that side of the engine, check wires inside of CPS to make sure they didn't get frayed or cut, make sure they are grounded out should be a wire coming from the driver side of it that grounds to the head, plug wires in the right order, from left to right it should be 1-6-3-4-2-5, is that all you have is the downpipe? none of the exhaust connected? that could possibly have been the noise, but if it was that loud idk, refer to a manual to properly adjust the CPS, it was the reason mine wouldn't start after i replaced head gasket/turbo

Put it to TDC then check cps again. If its backfiring then either that is off a tooth or plugs on wrong. Only check the cps if u had it out. If u didnt then it couldn't have jumped. Also check the vacuum line under the intake. That little one always got me. Make sure coil pack mount is grounded to the valve cover or anywhere u choose really but that's the factory location.

Yes, the cps works exactly like a distributor, get your number 1 cylinder at tdc on a compression stroke. move your ps reservoir out of the way and remove the cps all the way, align marks on gear and shaft. reinstall cps so the adjuster is centered on bolt hole(can be a pain cuz of the gears turning to mesh). lightly tighten it so its still moveable, start engine and use a timing gun to put it at approximately 10 degrees BTDC. put ps reservoir back on and your good to go.
