Default Coil On Plug conversion?

hey all. so i searched this through the site a few times and even google and couldnt really find a whole lot. maybe my search tactics suck? kept getting crap for fords...

as most know ill be running Megasquirt, and i wanted to do away with the plug wires and coil pack for a cleaner setup, plus the advantage of hotter spark to the plugs. anything for bigger and better!

anyway, i couldnt find a whole lot of info about who had the best OEM cop's so, i looked at what other ppl use. lexus, gm and GSXR coils were the favorites. then i found the escort ZX2 board. they use COP's from chrysler. found that the chrysler coils from an intrepid put our 35000 volts each. pretty decent. so i picked up a set from the local pull n save.

i plan on using these in a sequential setup, but if that proves too complicated ill switch to waste spark. should be easy enough to tune for sequential spark.

just wanted to know if anyone else has done a COP conversion?

A lot of people with a 1jz and MS are using gm LS1 COP. Off the top of my head though they are a wasted spark setup not sequential and you have to use a internal driver to power them with the MS. Here is a link that goes over it a bit. Yoy will have better luck seaeching for a jz COP mod due to the high amount of people running the MS on especially the 1j cuz the oem computer are Shit!

good info thanks! the only thing im curious about is that you said you need an internal driver to run with ms. my freind mike is running ms2 v3.0 and is running lexus coils on his in a sequential setup, no add-ons to ms. ill talk to him some more but he for sure told me with ms2 i can setup a sequential setup. its not necessary with the coils i got but either way itll work.

if not i guess i could just upgrade to ms3 off the bat!

I'm not for sure but I think the v3.0 board has the internal driver built in and it jus needs turned on or off through the laptop, or it can def. Be added to it. And there are so so many types of MS options out there its hard to say that ur buddys is goin to be just like urs. You can add and remove so many different components right when u order it that it becomes difficult to exactly replicate someone else's board unless u have there build sheet. And are u gettin an already assembled board or the DIY build ur self model?

yea true im new to ms so the options are prolly pretty fathomless. ill be getting the DIY cus my buddy is like an expert solderer so im gonna have him assemble it or at least teach me to solder. ill make sure and set it up for sequential so i dont burn out my coils at any chance, plus they will have hotter spark inbetween firings.
