I had the same problem with my 1990 n/a supra. I found a plug dangling from my wire harness that I believe had a brown wire and a yellow wire going to it that was hanging right next to my starter. I searched for day trying to figure out where it went, but it turns out it wasn't being used for anything. My problem was in my fuse block under the hood. The AM 1 fuse was blown which pretty much controls your ignition system along with some other things. I would check both the AM1 and the AM2 fuses. Good luck with the car and I hope you get the bragging rights!
