to big of exaust kills the back pressure and performance will suffer. to small has same effect. iirc lack of backpressue lets fresh air in the exaust system and will mess with the o/2 sensor, making you run to lean or rich i cant remember which one.

Install an exhaust diverter that you can open for loud exhaust and close when you need to be more civilized. And I find it funny that everyone agrees that 3in is far to big for the 7mge when my celica with a 1.8L comes stock with 2.5in.
