Coolant light on.

hello guys,

I have another question: My coolant light started coming on the other day. I checked the coolant levels and it's all good. Could it be some senser going bad? I'm not over heating either. I tried to find where this senser is and had no lock locating it, besides the temp senser. Any suggestions would be great.

Like always, you guys have helped out a lot with all your experiences.

Double check the coolant level in the overflow reservoir. The coolant level sensor is in the bottom of that reservoir.

Well, pulled out the reserve/overflow bottle and noticed some gunky fluids on the bottom after I dumped the coolant. I just washed it out and now the float on the bottom is now free from gunk. Everything seems to work now.

whoot.. glad that worked for you.
those sensors do sometimes crack and break or get stuck.. a good hardy smack on the overflow sometimes works too.

That gunk in the bottom of your bottle is a clear indication that your system needs to be flushed. Probably a good idea to do that before it gets problematic. There must be sludge and rust build up in your cooling system you need to get that crap out. What you found in your bottle came out of your motor.

That's not entirely true... while the garbage did have to come from somewhere, service stations and DIYers VERY rarely think to clean out the reservoir when flushing the rest of the system.... sadly they also fail to drain the detergents from it even after the flush is done.

Maybe so Cre, but I would bet $1000 that if you found gunk in your bottle you would be the first one to flush your system, cause you are that thorough!

Riiiiight.... just because I'm me.

I do try to keep things clean and add filters and other goodies to all kinds of places that people think are kind of odd... but I'm not a fanatic.
