O'Reilly bearing was incorrect for my car. The driveshaft shop ordered a inner bearing /rubber and peeled open the old carrier and installed the new insert. He said as long as the outer carrier was not damaged it would be fine.
5000 miles later, he was right. The carrier is working fine and even held up during the time I had a u-joint go out. $45 is what the bearing cost me.

I was reading on another fourm about some using a bearing from a 92' Ford Ranger 3.0L, Napa part number HB209-KF, that you can also get from rock auto cheaper. The guy said it worked with no mod to the bearing, just had to add a steal bar acroos the bottom of the bearing due to the fact that the ford bearing insulation gets bolted to the crossmember and has nothing to hold the insuation in place.
I have not tried it yet, but i do plan on it. |
