hey guys, i will be purchasing my first car in the near future, and my main concern is gas mileage. i found a cheap 1987 Supra non-turbo in fairly good condition.

so as stated, is the gas mileage good on this year of supra's and the non-turbo version? it is important that I get good gas mileage as the prices to date are outrageous.

Thanks alot guys!

All right, all right. I'll answer you !!! (Since all the lookers won't !)

15-17mpg town...20-24mpg hiway trips.

Better get a GEO if you need 'really good' mileage.

Yeah...my daily driver is an AE86 GT-S Corolla....26 MPG in city. Then I have my Supra...not so good milage...hopefully by the time I have my 1jz swap done, gas prices will have come back down...otherwise, I will only be driving it on the weekends and to car shows...

lol they gave me a geo for a rental car and it was only a three speed so it got realy bad mileage on the highways. but it was good in the city.

Remember, these cars were built in the late 80's, early 90's when the speed limit was 55, so the gas mileage on the sticker (20-24) is based on the 55 mph speed limit. Its also based on the driver NOT having leadfootitis.

AC kills my mpg and performance. Best I've done is 20mpg and that was a mix of hwy and country with little or no AC. But right now it gets the best gas mileage of anything in our driveway (we have two pickups).

Haven't tried different octanes to see if that helps mpg. Owners manual recommends plain old 87. Notice that the newer engines require premium grade?

my owners manual recommends premium with a minimum of medium grade...

Anyways, like I said, if you're paying a lot, just enjoy the drive more

They don't get the greatest gas mileage, but it is a performance car (no, a civic is not a performance car), so it's going to suck fuel when you floor it, which is hard to do in a car this fun, and that makes such a great sound when it's floored...

My mom has a Geo Metro 3 cylinder (LOL), Yeah, I've driven it, it's a perky car...if you don't weigh much, and you never have anyone or anything in the car with you, and it gets in the 30's....

must suck having gas that high. Im paying only 80 cents a gallon here in kuwait so gas mileage isn't that critical for me but I get between 15 to 17 mpg at best with an 87 NA and thats with Unleaded Super 95 octane. My
BMW 750il gets around 13-14 with a V12 and lotsa power (wifes car), next time home to Phoenix is gonna suck big time if the gas prices stay the same.
