1st Supra- '87 Turbo Targa 5 speed. Blown engine solid body with some minor dents and dings, 89 taillights and climate control. $800

2nd Supra- '89 Supra Targa N/A Auto. Missing engine and engine harness and chassis harness for the front. Engine caught fire and burned everything. Mint blue interior, rusty rear wheels wells, also had been hit in the front and the frame was repaired but looked like shit. Ended up using everything good off this car and put it on my 87 and junked the body. Think I payed like $650.

3rd Supra- '87 Turbo Auto dealer installed sunroof. Pretty solid body with some major dents on rear quarters, good interior. Ran good for about a week then ended up pulling the engine and parting it out then junking it. Think I paid about $800 for that one.

4th Supra- '91 N/A 5 Speed factory sunroof. Basically mint condition but missing some interior stuff. Had shadow gray interior. Dude started parting it out thats why it was missing some interior. Paid $300 for it because it didn't have a title. Ended up selling it last summer for $300 after doing some mods to it.

5th Supra- 1988 Toyota Supra Turbo Targa 5-speed. Few minor dings a little bit of surface rust around rear wheel wells. Descent condition leather interior, engine had very bad rod knock. Also came with a brand new aluminum racing radiator and dual fan kit. All for $1200.

btwilson86 05-06-2010 03:57 AM

Supra 1- $150.00: 87 N/A, Auto, Targa, Sport Package. Bad paint, broken windshield, bad interior, dented rf fender, 4 bad tires, blown trans (I blew the motor shortly after)

Supra 2- $150.00 and my 37" LCD TV: 87 Turbo, 5 Spd, Targa, ABS. Was running like crap (previous owner did NOT know supra's), ran great for a week, it broke down and had to park it in a turnout. I was gettin the money for a tow (we're talkin 3 days) someone pushed it off a small cliff :rant2:

Supra 3- Traded an ignitor for an 85 Celica GT-S Coupe for it: 88 N/A, 5 Spd, damaged front end, bad motor, everything else is cherry

As you can see in my sig, I only have supra 3 now

joshtexican 05-06-2010 05:25 PM

1st Supra: 375.00-86.5 NA- Damaged front end, very little rod knock, pretty decent interior 190,000 miles on it, tokico shock and spring set, Lexus 16" wheels.

375.00 + 88.00 tags and title = 463.00 on the road.

2nd Supra: Traded an alright running Dodge Dakota and an 86 250x quad for:

Fully built 7mgte (only motor) with forged pistons, bored .20, arp supporting hardware, redone head, front facing intake, everything to asemble back together other than gaskets and arp head studs, And an 89 na completely stock with the best body I have ever seen.

3rd Supra: Junked/Parts car-380.00!!-88 7mgte- hole the size of a dollar coin in block, no rear end, almost complete interior, I got the complete working turbo system off it (worth the 380.00 I spent on whole car) Targa top.

Only have the 1st Supra, built motor, and 3rd Parts car.

jcastro 05-06-2010 05:58 PM

1rst 88supra $800 1,200mi N/A 2nd supra 87 turbo 5spd targa 89,000mi good condition minor issues for $3,000

907mge 05-06-2010 07:39 PM

I think the real question should be not what you paid for the car but what you put into it after you bought it?

kadinz 05-06-2010 07:53 PM

bought it, 500bux..replaced head gasket, ripped a rod out of the motor 2 days later.. blah blah took forever to find an engine, 350bux for the engine...all in all, 1500bux for the car and its running smoooooooooooooooooooooth, high idle problem soon to be fixed by connecting all the vacuums!

a400tool 05-06-2010 11:05 PM

$0.00, was my dad's.

91 Turbo stock, 103,000mi

New head gasket, radiator, rear diff, new track rod ends and lower ball joints.
Runs as good as the day it came out of the showroom, maybe better!

Sellenzz 05-07-2010 12:18 AM

Tsk Tsk on me. I paid $5000 for mine. I have a 91 single turbo JZE. It was owned by an old man and sat in his garage for 6 years. It has 70k on it and everything looks mint. The issue being after 6 years in a garage things started to dry-rot. Drove great for one year now my turbo is billowing smoke:dunno:. I have been thinking of fixing it for 3 years but I really dont know where to bring it or how much it would cost. For now it sits waiting for the day we hit the road again. Im stuck driving my damn accord V-tec 6 with no power stearing, reverse or 4rth gear.

cre 05-07-2010 01:21 AM

$300 and I'm not going to admit just how much I spent to end up with a car I could have bought for $5,000....

I intend not to make that same mistake with my next car.

907mge 05-07-2010 02:15 AM

I paid $3500 for my 1990 N/A with 130k. I probably have an additional $5k in it now to get it up to the way I want. And thats with 95% of the labor done by me. And I'm sure many will agree there is always something new to find and replace or tweak.

turbonicsperformance 05-07-2010 02:35 AM

wow this thread took off fast ive put 400 into my car now with an aem wideband, radio, speakers, airfilter, and lube service all around

ttocsmai 05-08-2010 01:45 AM

86.5 Supra - Paid $500 for it because it didn't pass NJ inspection. Needed a bushing in the passenger front. He had also already replaced the head gasket. Mileage - 103000.

Vehicle is still stock but needs a radio and A/C leak somewhere. Still runs strong.

suprajim 05-08-2010 05:37 AM

I paid $4k for my red 92 w/sunroof. Front seats need to be redone but the rest of the shadow gray interior is in decent shape. 170k on the chassis and about 10k on the rebuilt 7mgte. I've put almost $2k into it to replace tires, steering rack and a few random parts.

Cameroonski 05-09-2010 02:26 PM

86.5 for $750. Had the following:

138 thousand miles, remanufactured top end, new alternator, thermostat, belts, gaskets, breaks, rotors... interior is great with all the fancy power stuff. And several more things that i cant remember.

Ive done... new clutch, oil pump (that came with it un-installed), aluminum radiator (from a parts car i bought for CHEAP), tokico illumina 2 (parts car), stereo... waiting on speakers at the moment, new fuel pump (15 dollars on ebay), electric fans (45 on ebay), and a few other odds and ends.

Total at this point including everything, parts and legal papers and car, probably about $1100... a little more if you include the parts car.

Future items... lowering kit, new tires, gear up my rear LSD, and sound system.

batmmannn 05-14-2010 06:16 AM

What I paid

Paid $1000 for my 86.5 Red Spd N/A 7 or 8 years ago. Ran great known problems were bad starter, bad lock door switch drivers side, let it sit 6 years while drove my 87 Supra and some other Geos and Nissans.

87 Supra Auto Black, No Problems purchased 10 years ago for $1700.00
Now has tapping head problem. Recently started for reserrection.

MA70-3.0GT 05-14-2010 04:28 PM

'90 JDM Supra Turbo automatic, '99 import to UK, aero top in black with the digital dash. Near mint body & grey cloth interior, had fully rebuilt motor but with BHG & holed heater core, fair spec with climate/cruise, TEMS, 4-ESC, elec. everything but no leather, 17" Alessio wheels & new tyres, 3" stainless zorst, K&N intake, new Blaupunkt flip-front stereo, Thatcham Alarm/immob.

Swapped an '89 JDM Pajero SWB 2.5 diesel automatic with no MOT or front bumper & 4 worn (illegal) tyres and tatty paint for it. It did drive nicely though & had been looked after pretty well, that owed me around 400 pounds.

So far I've spent about 80 quid on the Supra, 11 of those for a head gasket off E-bay (a gamble which paid off as it was a quality part after all) and the rest on sundry bits & bobs to complete the HG job. Another 40 for MOT (flying colours anyone? :) ) and 205 for road tax (thank you Gordon!) and the total comes to around 725 on the road, under 500 minus MOT/tax with very little left to do. Not sure what the exchange rate is atm but I'm sure with Gordon Brown's help it doesn't come to any more than $1000 all in...

supra.7mgte 05-15-2010 02:10 AM

well i paid 3000 for mine two years ago.. it had no motor in the car but can with a rebuilt 7mgte.. it looked like a shitty rebuild jobs so i tore it down to bare bones and nothing was done right so for the lsat two years i have been rebuilding it.. with everything brand new its cost me close to 10 grand with out the stuff i have had to put in like the 1400 clutch and five hundred dollar exhaust and tires.. i prob have right around 10-11 thousand into right now.

Grandavi 05-15-2010 03:44 AM

Paid 6000.00 for mine (88 MKIII) about 2 years ago (when I first joined this forum). Now.. had I known about this FIRST.. I would probably not have bought my Supra here... I would have went state side to pick it up.

However, having said that... after putting 3500.00 into body work (removing rust and rebuilding wheel wells and quarter panels.. not painted yet), and looking at the 5-10k I will have to dump into the car to get it to where I want it.. I am happy.

Its very hard to pick up a good Supra if you dont know what your looking for (and I didn't). I dont plan on ever parting with the car unless I retire myself and give it to my son. Otherwise.. its off the market forever.

I think that these cars are undervalued and with the new wave of "exotic" collectibles, their value will rise. But "ricing" it out is a mistake and I see a lot of people doing that. Sure.. I could get this puppy up to 650 HP.. but why? I enjoy it stock. Mod the exhaust.. get everything to tip top running condition.. maintain it.. and grin.

I still get thumbs up whenever I take it on the road.

nailhead432 05-15-2010 11:22 PM

$0.00 87 Supra N/A with 226,000 miles on it. Had been sitting for 5 years and I was told it had a knock when I got it. It was missing the wheels but had a set of wheels off of an old Camry or something that was given to me just to get it on the wrecker to get it home. Had to remove the front calipers to get the wheels on. I have less than $500 in it now (including the wrecker expense) and got it running and everything on the car working, but it does have a bad knock. Time to call JDM and get an engine.

jdmsoup 05-16-2010 09:36 PM

$1500 on an 87 mk3 turbo. with a few mods done to it and all it needed was an alternator for $35 and a battery. which i got a brand new optima red top for $50 bucks. i lvoe friends with an old battery that still had a warranty on it. and it ran great until i blew the hg but its worth it.

batmmannn 05-16-2010 09:44 PM

Man Thats cheap

Great price for a turbo. Did you post pics of it? I read earlier that they torgued our heads to the wrong specs from the factory thus the blown head gaskets but Toyota never issued a recall on them.

jdmsoup 05-16-2010 09:47 PM

yeah it was a great price. i was worried something was going to mess up on it but ive checked everything before the hg blew and everything in in working condition and the turbo has no shaft play or anything. he only sold it so cheap because he wanted it out of his yard and he only needed a little bit of moeny to finish his other car so he told me 1500 and its mine. haha but the only pic i have of it is the one on my avatar when i post and on my profile. after i get this top end build done im going to post a bunch more pics of the new parts and paint.

batmmannn 05-18-2010 02:07 AM

Yeah I know the feeling

I think my head gasket is blown as well. It;'s the only thing that makes any sense. Can a throttle control sensor stop a car from running?

jdmsoup 05-18-2010 02:35 AM

well a blown headgasket wont make the car stop running it will just run like shit.

batmmannn 05-18-2010 03:06 AM

Head Gasket

Yeah I know I can't figure this thing out! It should be running! It died, Just stopped, I can't think of what I am missing. Doing a compression check is all I have left unless it's something in the electrics but I have spark! I have fuel pumping. WTF?

jdmsoup 05-18-2010 03:16 AM

check all your connectors and make sure everything is connected. im not a genuis with these cars. its my first supra. so im throwing out the basics man. doing what i can to help a fellow supra owner.

batmmannn 05-18-2010 03:31 AM

I appreciate that

But I am getting near the end of my patience with this thing. If the compression checks out I am not going to know what to do.

87mk111 06-06-2010 01:05 AM

2500 For my 87. Faded bumbers, Little bit of rust on front left fender, Rice wing on the trunk, interior almost mint (one or two cigarette burns), "jdm" ge motor and 5 spd tranny, 115,000 miles on clock. i thought it was a pretty good deal. Repalced the front fender and bumper and removed the wing.

phat_toaster 03-27-2012 04:29 AM

I just spent $4100 for an '89 Turbo Sport Roof, 146K with no rust, nearly perfect body (except that the front bumper was repainted by an ape) and almost flawless interior. Of course there are a few cosmetic blemishes inside and out, but still incredible for a 23 year-old car. Engine runs really smooth and has a few nice upgrades (HKS BOV, 3" Magnaflow exhaust, GReddy turbo timer, etc.) It was a California car, where I picked it up and drove it over 700 miles in two days with absolutely no issues. I'm thrilled with my new toy!

DawgB0 03-27-2012 05:26 AM

$800

for 1992 mk3 turbo n stick nonrunning, unknown but was told it wasnt even runninn for past 1 years ndabout to get it started soon, so far spent $20 on new hose and gas lol n counting.
