If adjusting the spark advance is making a difference the physical timing is the most likely source of you headache. Pull the timing belt cover, reset the crank to 0 degrees, zero the cams back out, check the tension on the timing belt and pull the CPS/distributor and reset it to 0 degrees.
If you still have trouble check for error codes and post back. And use more descript titles in the future...
